Not all settlements are marked on the official map

Post » Mon Oct 10, 2011 12:04 pm

In the official gameplay video, as Todd rides out of town on his horse, you can see all the arrow signs pointing to towns.

The five major cities are all there, and then there are also signs pointing back to Riverwood, Helgen and Ivarstead.

Helgen and Ivarstead are definitely not on the map.

Do they have different names? I'm looking at the Russian map right now and the only settlements in the direction those arrows are pointing are Riverwood, Oakwood and Sunguard.

I think you are mistaken.

Theres an English version out

Oh, thanks!

I'm looking at it now. Well that's weird.

Wonder why they would change the name Oakwood to Helgen and the name Sunguard to Ivarstead?

I can post this version of the map because it's made from officially released photos of the map.

In these VERY early maps of the game, there seem to be many more towns that didn't make the final cut. That's a shame.

Wasn't the other map given out at a Russian gaming convention? Some forum members are also saying their local Gamestop's have the map posted on their windows.

Seems weird to me that all the small settlements are either in the far west or south.

I was hoping for some awesome, snowy little settlements up by Winterhold and in the north.

Dawnstar. There could be other settlements that just aren't marked.

That's sad.

As I mentioned, I was really hoping for some snowy, cozy little settlements in the north, but it appears I'm out of luck on that.

Guess it's either Winterhold or bust.

Right. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Dawnstar is considered a minor city. But I was ALSO hoping for some small, Riverwood-sized towns, except in the deep, blizzardy snow, with maybe 5-6 log cabins, a little store, and a tavern with plenty of big nords.

How do you know Dawnstar isn't Riverwood sized?

I guess I'm making an educated guess to the fact that it has its own coat of arms and symbol on the map, just like the other cities do. Whereas Riverwood has a little town/house generic symbol.

Looking at the old map, Dawnstar takes up 9 cells. Riverwood only takes up 4.

Well that's even better, bigger towns. But I see where he's coming from in wanting a smaller, cozier settlement.
