Not Another Character Creation Thread

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:49 pm

Yes, yes it is, I'm afraid.

Anyway, some of you may know that my latest character, Helena and I have been journeying around Cyrodiil at a very low level, just admiring everything and enjoying our time there. Eventually she will start to grow more powerful, but it feels right to have her at this stage.

But I'm getting an urge to create a darker character to play alongside. Someone who's pretty much the opposite of the sweet, loving Helena Aurelie.

That said, I've only really got one idea. A hunter-y Nightblade.

It'll have to be female (I find I roleplay best this way), and one of the humanoid races (no Orcs either). I was thinking something like a Nord, Breton or Dunmer.

Any ideas you have for a more evil character, but not necessarily the evil to end all evils, would be most appreciated.

Thanks :)

Hmm, Helena is a young Breton healer from High Rock. Something different, yet consistent with your comments. . .

A nightblade type Dunmeri lass. Proficient with bow and smaller blades to do damage. Uses magic mostly for utility and as support. To me, this character screams urban. Preferring cities, she is likely to worm and flirt her way into courtly intrigue. She is curious about power within the Empire and wants to be close to it - perhaps even in a position to influence it.

Envision the character clearly, then begin to think about the mundane stuff to support it like birthsign and major (yawn) skills.

Then create her, introduce yourself to her and listen carefully, allowing her to set her own path from that point forward.

Good luck! :)

I suggest doing something very different from Helena so that you can have a truly fresh experience. Try building a character as opposite to her as possible. Different race, different tactics, different social position, etc...

So far as attitude goes, I humbly submit this in the hopes that it might give you an idea about how to roleplay an evil character. My first evil character was http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion206.jpg. She is the daughter of a wealthy couple from the Imperial City, who made their fortune with a continent-wide shipping business (think Wells Fargo). Because of that her parents were often traveling all over Tamriel to look after the business, and were never there when she was a child. She came to resent them, and often felt that her parents did not want her. So she learned to take it out on the people around her.

Being from a good family naturally she went to the Arcane University. She seduced all of her instructors. Not because she needed to in order to pass, but rather because she enjoyed manipulating them. Except for one, Raminus Polus, who was completely immune to her charms. Because he put his principles ahead of his [censored], he is the only man she respects. In fact, she has a bit of a real crush on him.

When she graduated from university, her family secured her a position in the Bravil Mages Guild. This was not her idea, but rather because her parents know how wild she is, and they hope her uncle Fathis (the Bravil Court Mage), can keep an eye on her. Not the greatest choice seeing that Fathis is the biggest philanderer in Cyrodiil (I am basing him from mALX's Maxical fan fic - I cannot see Fathis Aren in any other way than how she wrote him.) Saya of course hates Bravil, and hates her uncle even more. In fact, she often considers her only real friend to be her skeleton Bones. She believes that it is the same skeleton that she summons every time, and that it likes her as much as she does him. She has even considering finding a way to make him permanent, even though she knows this would be considered necromancy, and get her expelled from the guild.

So basically Saya is a banol evil. Not out to destroy the world, or conquer it. Rather she has some deep-seated childhood issues and takes out her insecurity, frustration, and rage upon others. She uses men for her pleasure and throws them aside. In fact, she uses everyone and throws them aside when they are no longer useful to her. She does not feel the need to go out and murder or steal (and in fact is generally a very law-abiding person, she will not go around picking people's pockets for example, or otherwise stealing). She is willing to help other people so long as there is something in it for her. With Saya it all comes down to her, and what benefits her in the long run.

As far as things like game stats are concerned, Saya is a battle-conjurer. She wears armor, starting with Iron and then later going to a modded form of elven armor. She also uses a mace, starting with Iron, then gradually upgrading. Her favorite was the Silver, based purely on looks. Although she likes the Ebony as well. Her main tactic is to summon a skeleton to distract enemies, then move in beside her opponent and use either touch destruction spells or simply bash them with her mace. She reserves ranged destruction spells for enemies that fight at range, like archers or imps.

Some ideas from uesp-

Become a member of the Mythic Dawn. Start the Dagon Shrine quest, go to Lake Arrius Caverns, drop your items, and talk to Harrow. Agree to become an initiate (and give Harrow all of your possessions). Do not go any further into the shrine, because you cannot get back out without giving up your Mythic Dawn membership. You are now officially an Acolyte of the Mythic Dawn. Retrieve all of the items that you dropped on the ground.

Imagine that at the start of the game you were already a Mythic Dawn agent who was arrested on purpose so that you could murder the Emperor. Talk to other Mythic Dawn agents (e.g., the sleeper agents in towns) to find out everything you can about the group.

Use Mythic Dawn equipment; wear the Mythic Dawn Robe and Hood, possibly enchanting a set of robes, use Daedric weapons, never use the Blades' Akaviri Katanas.

Royal Assassin-
Royal Assassins work for a specific Count or Countess or perhaps even Chancellor Ocato. If you want someone who is unessential so you can one day betray your Count (kill them), choose Count Regulus Terentius. As the assassin for the Count or Countess, you assassinate their political rivals, or anyone who disagrees with their laws.

Kill those responsible for publishing dangerous radical ideas. Pretend that the Black Horse Courier has been publishing articles about democratic ideals and the Count/Countess wants you to kill the owners and destroy the articles. Ambush couriers on horseback before they can deliver their dangerous articles. This is good in part because the courier NPCs respawn.

You could work as the assassin for Countess Alessia Caro of Leyawiin, hunting down those Argonians, Khajiit, and Dark Elves that she considers a threat.

Or perhaps there is a new philosopher preaching dangerous ideas. Dispose of those heretics!

Work as the Count's Advisor, disguising yourself when you carry out his assassinations. Perhaps you are corrupting him, advising him who needs to be assassinated and carrying it out yourself. You are working to establish your own power so you can one day become Count.

Acadian, Subrosa and Winterwolf, thanks for your amazing ideas.

I'm incredibly intrigued by the courtly Nightblade, flirting her way to the top. I've given her form in my mind, I need to settle on a name now but that'll get done soon. Just need to go into my book of names ;)

She's already told me her favourite colours for clothing, her general personality and her hatred of things being "messy". She refuses to get her dresses dirty, and that's pretty much all she wears unless she's travelling.

I'll be sure to post with her in the "What did you character do today?" thread if you're interested in seeing how she turns out.
I'm looking forward to playing her immensely. She's more how my Morrowind main used to be (Telvanni mindset, do things for personal gain with little regard to others as long as it has benefit for her, a bit like Subrosa's character).

Yes, please let us know how she goes. I'm so pleased to see you focusing more on things like her favorite colors and personaltiy than mundane stuff like (yawn) major skills. :wavey:

Aye, I don't really enjoy the "skills" side of it. I'd much rather work out the skills after I've found out who she is. That said, the majors she'll use will be Marksman, Blade and Illusion, using the other magic schools as minors.

I don't think her strength will get much higher than 50, as I want to preserve her courtly daintiness.
