Yeah I would prefer that to being able to instantly travel to any major city right off the bat.

This is how it was in Fallout 3 and the shivering isles. I don't have a problem with it :)

It'd add to the sense of achievement, having discovered the cities yourself.

I think it would be a lot better for roleplaying. In Oblivion, you could exit the sewers and just travel to any city without exploring a bit. What's up with that?

Very few things look as cool as looking down from the higher parts of the Gold Road at Anvil at sunset :P

Wonder how it would work for carriages then...

Would the owner of the carriage say "Sorry, can't take you there right now. I know where it is, but you haven't discovered it yet, so I can't take you there!"?

I'm pretty sure that's why the carriages are there in the first place. You can either walk or pay (hopefully a whole lot of) gold.

Hopefully they'll just be fairly expensive so you'd at least have to earn some money before you'd be able to use them to get places.

Personally I hope unknown places on the map are fogged over until you get there, like Morrowind. Being able to see the whole map, all the cities and all the roads leading to them right in the beginning of Oblivion kind of ruined the exploration a bit.

I don't really want it to be too expensive, but maybe too much for you to just do it right when you start the game?

My understanding of the carriage system was that you could only map fast-travel to places you'd been, but the carriages could take you to a major city regardless. I could be off, but I'd put money on it working that way.

I won't use the regular fast travel, only carriages and as hlvr says it would be awkward not being able to be transported to a city for the sole reason of not being there earlier.

I think we'll have to visit the city first before fast traveling, just like Fallout 3. Carriages should be able to take us their though fir a nice price.

Like OB, assuming that there are well made roads and horse riding guards along all the major roads, I have no problem justifying Fast-Travel to major cities at the beginning of the game.

Granted I probibally won't do it in my first few playthroughs as I'll be wanting to see everything. But, after years of playing (assuming I play this like the other ES games) the Fast-Travel will be welcome.

I think it will be exactly like this

If not, you can be sure that someone will quickly mod it so that it is

I could live with this, although i think it would just be the Towns and smaller settlements as there has already been a stagecoach type travel system confirmed for city to city travel.

And it would just be silly if they couldn't take you as they didn't know the way...........although this is not unlike Taxi's in the welsh valleys where I live lol

You shouldn't have to be rich, but you shouldn't be able to do it right from the start. Get to know the area first, do some quests before you move on. That's the way I see it anyways.

Yes please as I hated that feature in Oblivion where all of the cities were unlocked immeidately even Kvatch of all places. I love Fast Travel but having them all unlocked at the beginning was ridiculous. I can understand the Imperial City but Anvil, Kvatch, Leyawin, really. :shakehead:

Harvest a bunch of random loot from all the boxes and barrels around the first city, sell it for some starting gold, and take a quick ride on the carriage system (or, in MW, the Silt Striders). Presto, the major cities are now 'discovered' for Fast Travel.
