Not enough ammo?

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 5:40 pm

I am new to the game. When I use VATS, it often tells me I am low on ammo. For example, I tried to kill some ghouls with the flamer and it would only tell me I had no ammo but when I looked in my pip boy I had PLENTY. It does this with other weapons too. It's like it does not recognize that there is plenty of more ammo. What gives? Any ideas?

I don't recall ever seeing a message for low ammo. Could it have said that your weapon was in poor condition and would need to be repaired soon?

It could be saying low AP
and iirc if you don't have enough AP and your close to needing to reload during a turn it could say not enough ammo

AP is action points. The number of shots you can take in VATS is limited to how much AP you have to spend. Different weapons use different amounts of AP per shot in VATS. Usually the stronger the weapon the higher the AP cost.

Once you use up your AP you must let it recharge while outside of VATS.

Your AP bar is the bar above the numbers telling you how much ammo your equipped weapon has.

"what does that mean?"

The Fallout Nerd in me said "Oh, God... *Facepalm*" When I heard that.

My AP has never been low enough to get a "Not Enough Action Points" message on the first shot in VATS. Only when I try to take more shots than my AP will allow. When I am low on ammo, the VATS will use an action point to reload, thus reducing my shots by one.

Also, if you have the PC version, the item codes for ammo in the command console are different. There are 2 codes for the one kind of ammo. One code won't work with guns. Other ammo has 1 code though.
