Not enough development time

Post » Sat Jul 09, 2011 11:25 pm

I was shocked when I read the Q an A for the reasons of why some things weren't or were in the game. Todd usually has a good reason for not doing something for instance with medium armor he basically said that heavy and light armor were both different enough to have but medium armor muddied the balance. He didn't want mark and recall or levitate because it basically nerfed the game. But for spears he said we would love to do them but we don't have the time...? I would rather them extend the date by a month and have the game that they want than rush something. I was under the impression they have been working on this game for a long time and yet they still cut good stuff based on development time. Do you guys think they might have cut anything else because of devlopment time?

To be honest, I'm not overly concerned with the lack of spears (I'm more of a longsword type person), so no. That being said, I wouldn't really care *that* much if they did delay the game to add spears. More variety never hurts.

i always hate it when developers cut things to meet some arbitrary deadline. i would gladly wait until fall 2012 if it meant they would add in spears and whatever else (cuz i know there is more they cut cuz 'dev time') into the game.and put all the stuff they took out for [censored] reasons back in...

I'm sad spears arent in but there will always be cuts made die to devolpment time.
I'd like decent mounted combat, rideable pack mammoths (Ok, I don't care too much about rideable pack mammoths), 27 factions with fully detailed questlines etc

Regardless, spears have not been cut from Skyrim, as they were never present.

I still do not understand the obsession with spears. You guys would want the game delayed a full year JUST to have one item?
That is insane.

And I'm not saying that because I don't care about them, it just doesn't make sense.

You could apply that to any feature and you would never release the game. No thanks, life will go on if folks don't get spears, they have to make a decision of what gets in and what gets cut somewhere along the line. I would bet there is a whole laundry list of features that got cut, you can't do everything.

of course there has been cuts, not everything makes the cut. after all this game is a buissness product. if its to much or to gimmicky its not going to make it.

and i dont think i could wait to be honest, iv wait for a long time for this game to be released. plus for 1 feature i think not.

and for has bethesda had enough development time. yes and no. no becuase as its mummy and daddy your allways wanting to improve it. but yes becuase its a buissness and a company need a little pressure. "pressure makes diamonds"

But spear are both long and pointy, how could you not want them?

I would take a delay until another gen of consoles, if the current hardware is limiting them as bad as they try to make it seem.

I want spears in just so I would get to fight spear wielding npcs. I honestly think the weapon type variation should be a lot more, even if it's stuff I'd never use. The more variety the better in my book.

I like spears, but can live without them. I've been playing DA:O for a while now and you know what ... no spears.

If I really want a spear I'm sure it will be modded in long before I get bored with the existing weapons.

I don't think an ES game has ever been released on its said date so its likely it will be delayed.

There will always be cuts do to developement time. If Bethesda softworks were to stop time, would they make this game a lot better? Of course, but they can't stop time. Always room for improvement buddy.

TES games tend to be huge. For a huge game like this I suspect they've been working on it for a very long time. Maybe starting with the concept around or before Oblivion was released.

I'd guess that adding Spears would take more than a month. Keep in mind that right now the game should essentially be done. Hopefully they are just doing some final testing, and making the arrangements to print and ship.

To make any change now would likely disrupt the schedule more than a month.

I suspect that mod'ers will add Spears if it is allowed by the engine. And if it's not, it would be tough for Bethesda to add, because they'd likely be unwilling to mod the engine at this late date.

If it's supported by the engineer, Bethesda could release Spears (and other things) via a DLC or something. I'd rather that than a month delay.

It's not just time. It's also money. And time is money - close to literally. Since Bethesda would then need to pay the developers for another month. And even if the developers where free, that would be a month that they would not be working on some other Bethesda game or DLC.

I would leap at an opportunity to start playing this game right now, even if it's riddled with game breaking bugs.

I don't care if spears or any other feature is not included, I'm not interested in any scenario delaying the release date even by one hour.

12:01am should be the time the game unlocks on Steam

I don't think an ES game has ever been released on its said date so its likely it will be delayed.

They've gotten better at development over the years and are more professional so just going based off past experiences doesn't mean it will. Oblivion was delayed because they received the devkit for the Xbox 360 too late as for Morrowind, I don't remember I didn't pay close attention to it when it was being released. As for the previous TES games before that, I wouldn't know, I didn't know of TES until Morrowind and like I mentioned already, they've gotten better over the years.

Yeah, I don't like some of the reasons they gave either, but if they did what someone mentioned already, waiting till next consoles, then we probably wouldn't get anything too much better because those new consoles would be new to them and they don't have experience working with them. So I'm happy with when they're releasing, plus I'll be getting the PC version which means, mods are always a possibility for me, for whatever I want to add in, including spears.

AFAIK, the devs are already busy plugging away at the project, even using their own personal time (according to some) to make sure some things make it by the deadline. So, if they are scrambling to get things done by the projected release date, I can only imagine that some things will get cut.

The point is, they could make a perfect game but at the same time they can't.

1.) I wouldn't want them to delay the game for some stupid spear. They can include it in a DLC .

2.) I'm not willing to wait an extra day for it too come out.

3.) It's rediculous how much people are willing to wait a month for some stupid item.

I'd rather Skyrim come out a little later when the Wii-U is dominating MS & Sony and PC is even more hilariously ahead of 360 and PS3. That way they'd have to make a proper, modern game instead of a game that conforms to poor 2006 hardware.
