not enough options involving Charmisma

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 2:42 am

in my opinion i would love to see more choices when it comes to high charisma because i love being able to influence people i just wish it happened more, sorry if this has been talked about a lot this is the last thread i will be creating but i just hope in DLC more dialog choices involving charisma will be available, there are almost none if you are playing as a "good" character, i know there is no longer karma but i still role play as a good or mean character even if it almost effects nothing

I would like that too especially on things that matter like when you are told to kill people you like you should be able to talk your way out of it.

i agree its disappointing, maybe i imagined it but i think there were more options in fallout 3, i wanted Knights of the old republic level of decision making but that was never going to happen

I'd like to see more of this too. My character is largely built around a combination of intelligence and charisma, and the charisma really only comes into play in the form of occasional speech checks, getting better buying/selling prices with vendors, and recruiting greater numbers of settlers to settlements. Even when it does get integrated into speech checks it's rarely in a truly meaningful way. It's more like just getting a few XP and a slightly different version of the same dialog that you'd have gotten without the speech check in many instances. There are a fair number of instances where you can use it to spare peoples lives though. It would definitely be nice to see more of them.

i have amazing memories of those games, yes even the unfinished rushed 2nd KOTOR, cant talk about the online one though

i agree, honestly i use it mostly just to gain XP and get more credits, i dont mind doing either of those things but its not meaningful but i love having full charisma for the few times when it matters, i dont want to sound like all i am doing is complaining about this game because i have not had so much fun in a video game for a long time however i just wish there was more depth to speech

I agree there should be more charisma checks, and on top of this other skills checks too. That might bring more variety into quests ( at least if done right )

yes but I am referring to a large group of people who you are friends with and who you want to spare but can't. (Trying not to spoil anything)

Aren't all the options available via conversation based on Charsima? Frankly, there needs to be many more options based on other SPECIAL scores (Charisma is pretty well covered).

i think green options are not based on charisma, only yellow, orange and red are i think, and sadly i only find its helpful for gaining money, occasionally its been helpful to influence something important but i feel its very rare and i can only think of 2 or 3 instances where you can use it to influence something that matters

There needs to be a lot more options in general when it comes to dialogue. But when it comes to your character's stats effecting dialogue, it needs to be more than just Charisma. Other attributes and perks should have an effect and offer alternative options in how you interact with NPCs or go about a quest. Intelligence should come back to play a significant role in dialogue again.

(S)trength: Persuade through intimidation

(P)erception: Pick out weakness in conversation / or pick up on weakness on person spoken to, using it to your advantage

(E)ndurance: Ehmmm, yeah, ok.... If we had a survival skill in FO4, it could be through knowledge of the land and creatures, and perhaps tenacity.

(C.)harisma: Use your charming personality to your advantage (Charming does not equal knowledgeable as it is in FO4)

(I)ntelligence: Convince through logic and knowledge

(A)gility: Hmmm, yeah. No idea really, regarding conversations.

(L)uck: Luck could give an percentage chance, to stumble over the right choice, or influence the other attributes in checks.

Most of the attributes could be used for lying as well, to get you what you want.

That's how I would want it, or something close to that.

All the options are based on charisma as far as I remember.

Fallout 3 had other options too like you could use science or medicine to get shortcuts.

Repairing the boat for the robots you got some inteligence checks in option, this was also pretty common in FO3.

As for charisma, all use the same color code, as I have failed light yellow options with 9 in charisma and you never fail at cha 11 I think its random but weighted against your charisma.

Its not room for more in dialogue because of the 4 options.

I think we all can agree that the Fo3 dialogue was wonderful. From the beginning you had the choice of making your character either good or bad, there were perks that actually helped like lady killer as an example. Good or bad karma was a thing, your followers would follow based on how good or bad you were! It just makes me so so sad. I want to so badly for the dialogue to be better and for charisma to actually matter.

Dialog = Exp + More Money

But do we need the Dialogwheel? I think i know which Way Bethesda will go. The most Voice Acting has even the same Sentence. It doesnt matter if you fail or being successful. It just gives Exp/ more Money or not. That is the whole Different. There are some Situations with Choices but they are rare.

Yes, thinks it a few places you can bypass stuff with dialogue but mostly its pretty linear.
The problem with the dialogue wheel is that its 4 and always 4 fixed options, to do any changes they need an new 4 options page, this is why you can not talk about quests after accepting them as one example.

With an list you simply add and remove topics as needed making it far simpler to work with.

They used the wheel as Bioshock and other uses it, problem is that its far harder to make good dialogue for and doing more chaotic stuff then you have multiple quests including radiant ones involving the same NPC:

But yes its the same company who made Oblivion level scaling so far from all decisions are good:)

There is quite a lot of options involving charisma just not with speech checks. If we include the charisma specific perks, like wasteland whisper, animal friend and intimidation you can control a large portion of the games enemies. Using the pacify ability each perk grants you you can halt combative foes, have them fight by your side, and even give them commands.

While I know this isn't what you had in mind, these are other options. What I'd like is more checks in general. Those for other SPECIAL stats, Strength to impress or intimidate, Perception to spot lying, Intelligence to open new dialogue with scientist types. New Vegas had the right idea here just needed more options, while Fallout 4 takes a step back and then some.

honestly i would hate strength to intimidate people just because i love playing the kind of character who would intimidate someone and i hate strength as a skill, i will not post spoilers but i think the quest "the big dig" was done very well in terms of choice and if there can be more missions with similar choices then i would be happier though i would prefer what happened in fallout 3

I'm not sure what else to use Charisma.

Maybe haggling during a purchase? Or manipulate friendly NPC so they give you free item?

Then don't use strength. The idea behind having different skill checks is that you are able to play different characters ( more different then it is now possible ) - Strength would be used by those who want to play a bully, intelligence for the nerds, charisma for Mr Nice guy etc

Well, they could re-introduce Terrifying Presence as a perk again (instead of one of the others useless perks). It doesn't use strength as requirement, but speech. Since there is no skills in FO4, it could be governed by a SPECIAL, like Charisma. It would have to be reworked somewhat, to represent a intimidation perk, but could work as the opposite to being charming :) At least we can dream and hope, altho I think they will not abandon the dialogue wheel. Open conversation is more or less needed to grant more speech options, unless they set specific parameters for each npc, defining what will work on them. So that some are susceptible to one form of influencial speech but not another.
