Not Enough Wood In the World

Post » Fri Mar 11, 2016 4:03 am

Hi,

I have been working on a pretty large Sanctuary build and I have run out of wood. I have scraqed all the wood in every settlement as well as run hundreds of quests and picked up every piece. I do not have any quests left at this point that I know of and I am just about done with my Magazine Collection. I would really like to continue my Sanctuary build but it seems If I do not want to run the repeatable quests or just roam for adventure I am stuck with just the wood shipment I have been picking up in Diamond City. I know of two more shipments of 50 for purchase but I can never seem to find those NPC's. I have developed about 7 of the settlements with stores and Junk stations. I regularly check the settlements that are not connected by supply chain and haul it all back to the Sanctuary. Its not enough to build much each day.

I have lots and lots of bottle caps. I have tons of all the other materials with the exception of maybe copper.

Is there anyway to up my daily wood intake ? lol

I am worried that I wont be able to finish my Sanctuary Build and once that arena DLC comes out I will need to build a massive arena.

You could always go scavenging for pieces of junk that have wood in them.

You can pick up shipments for fewer caps from Mrs. Abernathy, IIRC...

I believe I got about 3000-4000 woods from scrapping all wood in every settlement.

I ran out of them too... so now I collect many many hunting rifle, short combat rifle and double barrel shotguns...

Spoiler
One of the supervisors at Greygarden, and one of the Abernathy's have wood shipments. I think Daniel Finch too, not sure.

The wiki says head to Spectacle Island.

It also says: "Wood, tied with Steel, is the most plentiful crafting material..." so I'm scared of what you may have built.... ;)

I found it easy to run out of wood if you do fairly sizeable settlements. Really it seems we either need to be able to grow trees or have scavenger stations that can be set to just collect certain items (i.e. wood in this case).

I ended up using the console command for wood as I could never get enough.

Not the fastest method but raid some raider bases, particularly the schools and grab anything that isn't nailed down and all of their weapons (up to you if you take armour) and you should hopefully get an decent amount of wood and other parts once you scrap them all down.

Yea, I was about to ask if you have been to Spectacle Island yet? Plenty of wood there! :) But yea, after a while, you will run out of wood. I wish Moe in DC sells like 4 shipments of 100 wood or more (like Myrna with the steel).

I run into the same problem, but with steel. I use steel for all the exterior walls at my settlements & they're all about 6x10 (with the exception of a few of the smaller settlements), three stories high.

I eventually just ended up doing the shipment dupe glitch as it began feeling tedious collecting steel. So, if you aren't against glitching I would give it a try if it's becoming too sparse or repetitive.

If you pick up every piece of junk you find and scrap weapons you don't need you will never run out of wood or steel. Adding new systems to be able to get more of one of the most plentiful resources in the game isn't really needed.

It would be nice if you, when scrapping pipe guns, could get wood as well as steel.

Adhesive is the absolute worst component to get. I would like it if they decreased the rarity, seeing as how it's used in almost every weapon and armor mod.

Yea, no thanks. I'm not dealing with anything related to settlements, that includes growing anything.

AFAIK you get 1 wood, some steel and copper from pipe rifles, but not the pistols.

For the most part I agree. However, I have recently begun collecting followers, rather than settlers. I send those serfs to sanctuary to be my adhesive slaves. Works well. And if I ever want one of them, they are all standing around right where I can find them...

Guys, Rome wasn't built in a day. Just play at your own leisure and expand the settlements whenever you get extra resources.

You can assign a settler to scavenging duties, it'd be cool if you could assign someone on lumberjack duties. Maybe?

What I find hilarious in a "dang it Bethesda, what do you think you are doing? STOP IT!" way, is well, most weapons that would scrap in to wood only give you 2 pieces of wood, up to 4 maybe 6 pieces of wood if you are lucky. But you know those "Boards" made up of wood used primarily by Super Mutants? Scrapping them only yields 1 piece of wood. You know what else yields 1 piece of wood when you scrap it? A Pencil. A SMALL INSIGNIFICANT PENCIL! Does Bethesda really expect me to believe that amount of wood in this board is the same amount of wood in this pencil? Yeah, no, that's some incredible bullcrap right there.

Thank you all for the tips. It seems I will have to get back to killing and looting.

Spectacle Island alone has around 4,000 wood if you haven't gone there already.

If you have a lot of caps then go buy some at Diamiond City from the SWATTER dude. He has shipment of 100, Connie at Abernathy Farm has shipment of 50, Supervisor Greene at Graygarden has shipment of 50. I buy these shipments with 10 CHR (6 CHR + 4 CHR from gear) for about 600 caps. Which is nothing since my settlement make me so many caps from their purified water, crops and taxes from the shops. Also helps if you have the perk that can highlight wood from junk. My favorite way of getting wood is from scrapping weapons.
