It's not epic anymore fighting dragons

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 2:03 am

Played the game 40 hours since it came out now the first few times it was plain awesome and intense fighting one but now they just keep appearing and they are quickly becoming annoying kinda like cliff racers in Morrowind.

Do you fast travel alot? Fast travelling seems to spawn dragons. I never fast travelled for the first 30 hours and only saw 4 or 5 random dragons. I started fast travelling to sell loot since (not using a follower anymore) and I have gotten dragon attacks every 1 out of 2 times I fast travel.

I fast travel a lot between places like after a quest or I just don't feel like wandering all the way over to a dungeon or something

i just went over the 100 hour threshold today and i still find myself dreading a dragon attack, not because they are boring and tedious but because i still find them intense and exciting battles, what level are you? wait until there are more variety of dragon flying around like blood, elder and ancient dragons, compared to the normal dragons these will both excite and frighten you

At level 20 I love dragon attacks. I hope they land in the middle of a city or town. Very cool

I do think that they should be buffed just a bit in power

I agree dragons are more of an annoyance than epic combat, espically since my character's level 60 now and.. i won't give details but she has quite a lot invested in bows, smithing and enchanting, and some higher-end enchants and gear and she can easily 3-shot any dragon even the anicent ones, with bows. It's not even remotely a challange, even if they do scale with your level. Epicness gone.... that and I hate it when i'm trying to fast travel between 5 towns to check alchemy supplies and a dragon spawns over one town when i'm trying to leave and "You can't fast travel with enemies near by"... #$@!%!%%$%$#!%!$#@!$

If anything they need to make the dragon bones disappear. Currently there is 2 set of bones in the courtyard of the mage college in my game :(

don't worry i got really worried about this too, i think if a dragon skeleton is out in the open world it stays there for quite some time, but when i next visited the college (by that i mean during normal gameplay, when i just happened to go back to the college, not fast travel away and back) the skeletons had gone, i think there programed to go away sooner in towns or settlements than in the open world

So you min-maxed yourself.. then said dragons aren't challenging?

And then you just said you can 3-shot them... but their appearance annoys you?....

This topic was the only real concern i had with the game. I thought dragons should be rare. If they weren't, they would have a cliffracer and Oblivion fates feel to them. They seem cool at first, but after a while, they are annoying.

I've got 4 or 5 dragon skeletons at the mage college and they're quite glitchy, they occasionally wind up stuck in the walls thrashing everywhere, sometimes they're gone completely (probably underground or something) and then later on they'll be back.

The game is centered around dragons taking over Tamriel. Of course there are going to be plenty.

i'm with this guy, dont power level your character and claim you can three shot any dragon and then blame the game and say they're just annoying now, it's your own fault if you ruined the dragon encounters in your game

So, you knowingly munchkin the game, and then cry about the game not being a challenge. I will never understand people like you, only looking for ways to min/max then whine like a $%&^# about the lack of challenge after min/maxing your character.

People like you should just go play Excel if all you want to do is min/max numbers.

My character is currently level 75 (if you constantly change how your playing the levels come automatically) and has finished all of the non radiant quests but I still enjoy a dragon arriving. They arent a challenge anymore and the fear of death isnt there but I try to kill them in different ways.

Smithing and enchanting really break your characters power and I intentionally carry several sets of armour to downgrade my gear or use a spell I have never killed one with instead of using my mega bow and conjure dremora lord. Sometimes you still get 1-3 hit kills because of weapon crit kill animations but its more fun to revert to a spell like flames and needing to run and hide again.

The comments about dragon skeletons piling up and thrashing is true though and I never fast travel to the college because of it. It is possible to move the skeletons sometimes and I have managed to either push them off the walls or force them to land and die outside.

Edit: on future playthroughs I think I will limit my characters level by not trying all the skills out but you have to see it all the first time.

Yes because they fly around and far up into the sky and it's difficult to arrow them correctly until they're somewhat closer to you or actually land on the ground or building or something, and sitting there waiting around for them to land, or get close, while the whole time i'd rather be off checking out another town, yet i can't, and this entire situation was forced on me and i could not avoid it... very much annoying, yes. When they finally do perch on something, or land, or hover over me and i can actually get arrows into their body, then it's over quick and I can move on.

For me it's more about who the dragon claims as its victims before I can take it down. A blood dragon killed Alvor! Noooooooo

i had an anicent dragon kill 2 members of the kahjiit caravans before i could take it down.. fortunately they were only guards and not important folks, and i could resurrect them with the console (PC), svcks if you're in xbox and it happens to someone important :/

I seem to have the exact opposite problem. I am level nine on the char i use in the main quest (i have 4 char) and when i fight a dragon and i'm all alone and i totally fail... and i play on apprentice.........I didn't think i'd fail this much at theis game

Then you fought two Elder Dragons at the same time and regretted you ever made this statement.

Dragons won't land on the ground a lot for me...makes it hard for me to strike them. THAT'S what is annoying about them to me.

Just use the Revenant spell (or other raise zombie spell) on the dragon skeleton and it will send the bones flying, hopefully far enough to get them out of the way.

I agree with the OP, mostly. Only because they aren't really a challenge. I'm on Expert and haven't seen any 'boss' dragons yet. Blood dragons are slightly annoying, but, manageable. Saber cats and cave bears are much harder. LOL.
