Not a fan of pre-war to post-war

Phoss has a point. After all in Fallout 3 we were born in the vault, nobody EVER leaves the vault. Except we weren't born in the vault , and I really think the vault door on 101 probably just spun on a post based on the number of people going in and out of the place over the years.

Yes, but people find it fitting, and it sounds better than "Playable Character"

True. Everyone will feel silly referring him to the Soul Survivor when his canon title turns out to be The Dog Whisperer.

Thank lords almighty. When i first saw the title of this thread i thought "another hater, yeez" but now that i read your post it is actualy i not bad. You have some good points, i too am hoping for more then "I'm an Android" kind of story. Infact i am actualy looking forward too the games storyline. I always liked having family ties as a character, and i am looking forward to experiencing this story too. I do have the same fears though, some of the stuff mentioned is realy cheesy and cliché. The cryostasis for example is a rather often used sci-fi ploy, as well as extreme periods in the round 100 of years in terms of time skipped during that cryostasis. The story of searching for family isn't new either (i asume this will atleast be part of it.) since it was/is the same as with FO3.

Also the name Sole Suvivor is alot like so many of the monikers given to previous protags, both from Fallout and Elder Scrolls series. Its more of a nickname then a literal description of the character. Even if he isn't the sole survivor of vault 111, at the time he believes he is. Imagine yourself waking up in some facility, with the knowlige of people you knew going in with you before, and finding no living being around in the vast complex of rooms. Naturaly you will consider yourself the sole survivor, especialy after finding bodies here and there. Sure you will hope that some of those you were with are still alive, but considering the evidence at hand, it is unlikely.

This seems very plausible, though Bethesda is also capable of flagrant lies. With an example being "Vault 101, where nobody ever enters, and nobody ever leaves" which was advertised pre-release of Fallout 3.It's an almost exact parallel...

I too don’t think it’s necessary to include the Pre-War world in the opening, but I can understand Bethesda wanting to include it. New hardware can do new things that wouldn’t have worked with the old technology of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, plus it’s something that wasn’t used in Fallout 1 or 2, so it’s an opportunity to ‘make the series there own’ in the same way Fallout 3 was made into a first person point of view rather than turn-based combat with a pseudo-isometric view.

I don't think it has anything to do with new hardware or not. They could have easily done the pre-war segment in Fo3 if they wanted to (tranquility lane). It looks like they want the pre-war segment to culminate into something familial 200 years later.

I expect the spouse and/or child to be found as a ghoul/cyborg master/calculator... somewhat akin to the plot of Prey/Fallout/ and the last Blender Project "https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OHOpb2fS-cM".

My interest in the world before the war is zero. I hope for the option to recreate the char after leaving the vault.

I expect them to be found intact. Just like Vault 101 was "a vault no-one ever enters or leaves" yet people seemed to be coming and going like it was a boarding house, the player in 111 is probably "a sole survivor" for the moment when there are no other survivors around.
