I know plenty of gay gamers who headcanon their spouse was their beard in the Nazi-esque Enclave-ruled US.
A gay or lisbian spouse they "married" because they were close friends.

This is almost as bad as being forced to be a plumber in Mario.

I wonder which dialogue option that was? When I picked "I love you" what my character actually said was "I still love my wife but that doesn't mean I can't love you too." >_<
For me it's not about how many gay people there are in the world vs how many straight people, it's that I thought this game would be an RPG with a strong ability to define my own character, their personality, etc...Having a set character only works well if the game either:
1) Is not focused on story at all but rather on gameplay (Mario, etc...)
2) Has a phenomenal story that can only be told with a set protagonist who has a set personality, set relationships, etc...
FO4 may be Bethesda taking a new direction and making their games more like 1, I doubt many would say that it's 2. The whole tragic backstory with dead spouse and the PC having to rescue their child is so generic and boring, it wasn't a good reason to place so many restrictions on the character.
idk if all of them have the same dialogue options, but at least with maccready, when he asks if you don't love your spouse, there's an option that makes your character tell him 'that's the past, you're all that matters to me now', which sounds pretty insensitive to me - especially considering your character has been in cryosleep so it's not really that long ago.
For crying out loud it will never end? Its obviously against transgendered people because you start off as a guy or girl and that is who you stay as the entire game.. Its homophobic because you start off married to someone of the opposite six and its sixist because Nora is a lawyer instead of a Navy Seal. People need to get over themselves. It is impossible to cater to every possible demographic. Soon enough there will be alternate start mods like there were for all the previous Bethesda games and then you can RP whatever background you want.
If you must there are plenty of cases of people who were married that were closeted gays. Just pretend that you didn't come out because it wasn't socially exceptable in Fallout pseudo 50s culture.
Homophobic? No. Boring and limiting, yes. It's easier to "cater to every dempgraphic" when you don't pre-define the character.
Albeit, the game is in a weird position because it predefines you as a heterosixual but gives the option for bisixual romances which are fully developed as well as polyamoury.
It's pretty damn progressive by that measure.
Especially as most media doesn't go a 10th as far.
Except that they obviously had a story in mind to tell. If they just plopped you in the middle of the vault by yourself and then told you that your kid was kidapped without all the buildup and watching them shoot your wife and steal your kid then that would be considered bad writing. I don't like the fact that I have a kid in the first place or that I am married but for the sake of the game I go along with it just like I go along with being and ex-con when I am playing GTA5 or a woman when playing Mirrors Edge.
As I said there will soon be a plethora of alternate start mods that plunk you in various starting locations with any number of different backgrounds and I will be among the first to download and use it (assuming it isn't made with TESVSnip.
really ?? ... I cant believe people are whining over this get a bloody life simply put if ya don't like it don't play it why bother wasting your time here on the forums
is it able to marry a companion of the same gender?
You can marry a same six companion maybe ? The Diamond City priest marries a guy to a robot (not a synth either, a robot) so I can't see why he wouldn't marry a same six couple. If you mean at the start then no, the spouse they force on you has to be the opposite six.
I don't believe you can marry any of the companions. There are romances for same-six companions though. I think you can even romance one of the robots.
i don't understand, the only npc's to have conversations and start relationships are the companions, so they are the only that the protagonist can marry, right?
and the answer to same six is no?
You can't do a marriage ceremony with them in the game, but you can have a romantic and physical relationship with them.
Oh dear. Seems people can't state their thoughts without slagging others.
I've removed some posts, but this thread went downhill. So I am closing it. Let it rest - either play the game or don't. And it might behoove some folks to lighten up a bit when discussing a game. Any game.
