Im not going to play Fallout 4 at launch. GOOD REASON

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:05 pm

Uh....

...honestly an interesting point of your way of playing things. Is like, when you watch a movie but you read the reviews and spoilers about some aspect of the story.

If that is how you like it, then go ahead all I know is that I can't wait to play blindly this game with the husband and wife.

P.s. Save travels on the wates.

Thats not like it at all. Its like looking up what the movie is about, not reading the plot or reviews, thats a horrible comparison.

For the last time, I dont read the plot. I just make sure, before I enter/leave the area, I know what I need to get. Before I do a quest, I know what to do. This game does have confusing parts. I would like to know one person who played Tranquility lane with good karma without looking it up.

Sounds like what I do, just look up how builds work and stuff like that. Basically I make sure I don't [censored] up something that ruins my game but otherwise I go with spur of the moment.

Exactly how I feel. I thought you could disarm the megaton bomb after arming it. And you cant. I armed it to get easy access into the tower, murdered Tennpenny and I went back to see if I could disarm it, and you cant...

The wiki is the game guide. I like prima guides, its just why not get the free version of it online. There are guides like prima online for free. But I will think about it. Brings back the nostalgia, when I played Lego Indiana jones and lego Batman as a kid.

I will not be playing on release day either, unless the GECK (or whatever else the modding tools are called this time around) comes out at the same time, since I want to remove all the 'Essential' tags first. I'm also going to avoid all spoilers, since I intend to start by playing 'blind' highest-difficulty Dead-Is-Dead.

Thats a better reason for waiting than what i have. For me its because in bethesdas infinite wisdom they decided to not send the pip boy editions to the stores and instead made them shipping only.

Because you want it day one. There are like 5 or 6 different places you can probably get reliable walktroughs for free. Hopefully, one of them will be done before you've gotten too far into the game.

The only other thing I could think of is just play through the game with a throw-a-way character. A guy that specializes in a combat skill that you don't really care for, select special attributes that are drastically different from what you would typically pick, and make decisions you wouldn't normally make. Avoid building settlements if that's something you really wanted to do. That way when you finally do get around to playing your second playthrough it still feels fresh.

God forbid something happens and you don't get to finish the game after waiting for so long. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable until I was like 50 hours into the game. At least get a feel for it.

Yes, playing like that is bad, and you should feel bad.

Nah, do as you please, I intend to play at launch though. I need my fix, and I never cared about the wiki anyways, besides I can always have another playthrough.

Better to play blind the first time or even better the first couple of times discovering stuff for yourself is the best its moments you've made that you can create for yourself. I have played using a wiki but that was because I've played the game over a dozen times from start to finish and I just wanted to what I missed and how my decisions would other quests.

But in saying that if you do enjoy not discovering things on your own and using guidance that's your choice.

I kinda play my computer games like I use tech devices in real life I dont know. I just press buttons and do things until they work. Like the remote control . Never read the manual on how to use it, I just... work it out.

In Fallout 3, I never checked a wiki or manual unless the key bindings where in the manual and not able to be changed. Its not rocket science we are talking about here.

Im not going to be upset if I miss a bobblehead and my natural inclination is to ransack each room I go into (unless Im being chased by a Deathclaw)

I don't think you'll have the same incentive to go loot hunting as you would in previous fallout games. I don't think there will be any rare weapons that will be any more effective than the weapons you can build and mod yourself. That would sort of defeat the purpose of having such a deep modding system if they did that. You also probably won't have a certain armor type that's way better than anything else you can get. That way your own personal style comes more into play more than it did in Fallout 3 and New Vegas where many people just picked the armor with the best stats.

I don't know why people get so snooty about stuff like this. I personally never cared about "bragging rights". Especially not in a role playing game.

The only thing I worry about is my stat distribution. What mechanics are most important? How many extra SPECIAL points will we be able to get as the game goes on? I remember I min-maxed my character in F3 and completely wasted points.

The first time I played it, I missed a lot of stuff and had a ball. 120 hours in, I realised once I started the final mission that my game was about to end, and so I ran off to do other stuff. I could never get that mission to restart after that, and ended up doing a walkthrough the second time around. But I don't regret playing the first time around, it made the second that much better.

Who cares if you blew Megaton up, or shot someone at Tenpenny Tower, or killed someone you shouldn't have? Just make sure it doesn't happen when you do it the next time. I can understand where you are coming from, but I think you are depriving yourself of the best aspect of the game - to explore the map and figure it out for yourself.

This basically.

But OP why not do a Moria and write your own wiki for other players? Why wait for someone's second hand experience?

You're definitely not the only one. I really enjoyed experiencing everything for the first time in 3 and New Vegas, but I also appreciated some help from the wiki on subsequent playthroughs. Plus, a study at UCSD actually found that people tend to enjoy a story more with spoilers. I couldn't find a free source for the actual paper, so I'm going to post a link to an article about it.

http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/archive/newsrel/soc/2011_08spoilers.asp

I'm still not 100% on what links are allowed, so if this isn't allowed, just look up "UC San Diego Spoiler Study"

My first playthrough will probably involve the stereotypical , easy-to-play, good character, doing mainly the central story while sniping my way through the game and missing 85% of it. Probably won't give a look at the wiki, because I feel it is some kind of mild cheating.

There is just too much information to absorb when first playing that kind of game, I just give up doing too much and give my brain a break. Then the second playthrough will be much more thorough.

I don't expect I'll be playing Fallout 4 at launch because I don't have a good PC yet and I lack the two consoles it'll be available all. Also, I'd like to give modders a chance to release an unofficial patch so that my game will actually work.

I wouldn't say it was bad, but I think you're cheating yourself out of the fun you would have had finding things out yourself on the first run. You will always have time to do that "perfect" run later. I'm not cracking the cover of the strat guide I'm getting until the first run is finished because I want to be surprised.
