I'm not going through this again

I am the Clan leader of a 50+ man roster on MAG. MAG had a lot of great concepts, but ultimately killed itself when it flat out refused to support clan wars. A game that was ideal for large clans that had no place for them to play.

Eventually, after more and more patches and bad management by the game's creator, Zipper, I was ready, and so was the clan, for a new experience. Brink was it. The concepts in this game had us drooling. No class restriction on weapons, a really serious approach to balancing, there were just a ton of things that made this game so mouth watering from a clan perspective, it's ridiculous.

But then I log online after having played the single player mode once PSN came up...and where's the clan support? No Tags? No Lobby? No roster lists? Hell I can't even get in a public game because NO ONE is playing this thing. It's totally blind.

I played games with better clan support on PS2. How is the FPS industry so amazing stupid? I read a couple of articles that stated how many "competitive gamers" were on the dev team for this game. Couple that with wolfenstein and the fact that Bethesda makes really good games and has good support for them, me and my guys were really looking forward to Brink.

So what did these guys compete at? Mario Kart? Perhaps Wii Tennis? Seriously, are you deficient? I'm flabbergasted that anyone would create a supposedly multiplayer game that is so player blind in regards to having any idea, as a player, that anyone else is even on wanting to play.

I spent countless hours posting on the MAG forums, offering advice to the devs, only to see half assed attempts to bring the game to full fruition. I'm not doing that again. There are certain elements in FPS multiplayer gaming that have worked from PS2 days that are not here in this game and I'm....I mean how does anyone release this game in this state and think, "oh yeah...that's fine, that'll attract and keep millions of players." Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

This post is a whining and QQ thread. It's to let someone who I paid money to know that I am highly disatisifed with their product. There will be no forthcoming "this is how you need to fix it" posts. Because no one should need to tell them how to fix it. It should be so obvious to anyone with any interaction on any other previous, successful MP online FPS game as to what this game needs, no one needs to point out squat. Those elements that are missing are like walking in regards to what games need to succeed today. The things that separate Brink from the CoDs and MoH's of the FPS world are already here, already present, and they're great.

The gameplay, the concepts, the balancing (with the exception of the CARB) is amazing. But if it can't support the ability for 7 of my clanmates and me to get online and take it to another 8 guys under clan tags, it's all worthless.

On June 30th, if Brink doesn't have Tags, a lobby, and the ability to produce clan matches, then I'll be taking the game back, and never purchasing another thing from Bethedsa or Splash Damage as a new sale ever again and I will recommend this action to everyone I ever talk to about both developers. If I can't trust you guys here, why should I trust anything else you put out?

Clan support = good

Your way of suggesting it = bad

This is the forum for the publisher. You should head over to the Splash Damage forums and post there (unless you posted in both places, then ignore this).

I'm not going to say much more than I agree.
Lots won't because they don't understand or have never cared enough to truly get why missing obvious features is beyond annoying for competitive.

Game reeks of absolutely awesome ideas. You can see the awesome bits, they're so awesome they're shining through the layer of [censored] that is the piss poor execution and it's really frustrating.

Lolwut? Need to calm down when someone's trying to help you out bro. The developer IS a better place to go than the publisher, that should just be common knowledge.

Gamebattles.com Is a place FOR clan battles, you CAN do them. But no one is doing them. Its VERY VERY VERY possible to do clan matches on gamebattles. And a clan system? Just change your tag to match that of your members. It only takes 2 days to hit level 20.... you level so fast on here..... Lobby system is the only thing your right about BUT... PC has something even better. THey have a browser list. It beats a lobby system every time. They can make rooms FOR clan tryouts and such. BUT, ps3 and xbox did not get it.

This game is extremely great. A totally different FPS, the ideas are there. The gameplay is there, but because of these little mistakes that were implemented..the game's quality is lost.

I really hope whoever is responsible in fixing the game actually reads these forums. I really hope you guys can fix this game and make it into something much more! This game WILL get its attention it should be getting once all things are patched or whatever you guy's have planned. I hope this upcoming patch will be worth it, or else this game/publisher/developer will lose a potential MUST BUY game of the year.

Lets see some changes PLEASE! or this game is going back to gamestop very soon :'( which I dont want to do, but will be forced to do because I cant enjoy this game to the potential it has

I hope they do make some changes, but sadly i feel like it might be too late, at least for the console versions. Each day i try to play there are fewer and fewer people playing. The launch lag (which still hasn't been completely resolved) has left a bad taste in many peoples mouths.

dont get me wrong, i hope the game recovers, but these seemingly small oversights have a HUGE impact on the game

And maybe you should stop giving out 'advice' to devs and listen to some advice from me: Stop taking your clan so seriously.

I've also noticed that almost all of last gens (online) games supported clans. I don't understand the mindset of the Devs when they were making games for this gens consoles... especially when just about all of the games are lacking quality fun single player campaigns and focused heavily on the multiplayer aspects...hopefully this game will receive enough support to inspire the Devs in to bringing out this games potential.

No clan tags? omg -_-

Is this game still laggy as hell online btw?

i loved the single player on ps3 ( well minus the lack of pakour that was ment to be heavly used in this game, and the whole 'you can go anwere' LIE, oh and the 'endless customisation' [censored]e LOL you dont really get alot of things to play with ) -_- but swaped to xbox and am in half a mind to even bother buying the game again theres more bad press for online than good, and i aint one to throw money away at all.

And not to 'get involved' in any of the arguments above, but i think the only succesfull game SD ever did was W:ET and they've been costing ever since, i mean quake wars was a fkin joke period, in fact i should just remove this post now coz i've just talked my self out of the buy :o

I have a question for everyone here, since we all seem to agree or somewhat agree that we think a sort of lobby system would be great? But they didn't put it in because....Well I'm not sure why, maybe they think a "drop-in drop-out shooter" doesn't need a lobby. But, maybe we should look at a game that most of the users here who want to suggest lobbies, are completely overlooking, a game that made Game of the year what was it....Last year?

Borderlands. Okay I didn't started in shooters until the first Halo, but the first time I saw Borderlands, I knew it was going to be a fun game, and I still have it, that's right, my original copy, not the one from last year. And I know I don't have enough people on my friend's list that play Borderlands to get the "full experience" of such a stylized drop-in drop-out game, but it does have a lobby. Sure it's a bit of a one-sided lobby for the person's campaign you jumped into, since they have all the power to kick and invite people, but I'm pretty sure if you're not hosting the campaign you can still at least invite people, and sure it's only four people to campaign, but if we think about it, those four people can pretty much come and go as they please. And okay, yes I see why it could be a problem for lobby listings or rosters or whatever else you're all on about, but that's just another beauty of Borderlands, you wanted to connect to an online campaign, and all you had to do was search a list, pick the one you liked the most and join in.

So all I'm saying is this. If we want a lobby, lets leave it at eight people since thats what the skirmishes on any level in this game are restricted to, there is certainly no need for any kind of "tdm" or "big teams" the teams are big enough if we haven't already realized that, and I don't know about everyone else, but the concept of a CTF in this game? Seems a bit silly. I mean if you want to rationalize it, half of your missions are such. "Steal the data key" "Escort this man to safety" "Retrieve the black box" that's almost half the missions right there guys, so....I think we're good on defend/capture objectives. I don't think people would mind a lobby/roster list for this game, but at the same time I don't know how hard it is to just throw in either. No, I'm not saying "Let's take the focus of making this into a CoD clone and focus that on making this a Borderlands clone." Cause that's just stupid, Borderlands will have it's sequel, and it certainly will not take place on earth, or any place LIKE earth, Brink is its own game, but like others, it could use improvements, no matter how major, slight, or overlooked they are, and like other games, it doesn't hurt to take a few basic or general ideas from some really successful games and implement them in their own unique way.

So I guess that's pretty much my suggestion, instead of worrying about what kind of "Clone" Brink turns into, figure out the right way to implement ideas that we know have worked before. Brink and Borderlands will probably never leave my library of games, no matter how "unplayable" someone says either game is. I like them, and I'd get rid of my Call of Duties before I got rid of them.

Well, the first one that comes to mind is MAG.

It is similar to Brink in the sense its an objective based game where doing non killing things are often vital to winning.

I just didn't think tags and/or roster list should be considered the foreign concept I felt you were implying.

Just have everyone change their steam handle to include their tag...

Oh, I'm sorry. You're one of those console gamers.

you and 7 of your friends can form a fireteam and go into a match together. as far as clan tags etc. what's the point? you and your friends know you guys are in a clan together, would you really want others gawking at your epically brilliant clan tag and stealing it? i agree with others that a lobby system should be implemented and have that test users connectivity to each other. other than that, i hope you enjoy your stay here and help come up with ingenious ideas to pass to the DEVs for a patch, that certainly wouldn't hurt. just saying....

Posts like the OPs come from people who, I am venturing to say, rather uninformed about how crazy the development process is. Also, take into account that this is a fairly new take on the shooter genre meaning that the publisher does not want to spend a lot on development. They want to get it out and track it to see how the basic concept is working. I am not saying I agree with this but it is the reality of things. I never heard of Splash Damage before so I am assuming they are fairly new and that means that they probably did not have an EA-sized hundred million dollar budget. You can tell by the way the game released. It is somewhat bare bones, but it also seems to have wiggle room on a lot of features which, to me, is encouraging.

You can see that the team was most concerned about more game play and balancing. Things like sound, interface and online features probably took a back seat given the fact that they probably had a very small budget. These things can also be tweaked and added at a later date but the core mechanics are much more difficult to tweak after release because any change to core mechanics can set off a whole new round of bugs and glitches. I think they planned this out well with that in mind.

Time will tell the tale. Lets see how the patching and DLC pan out and go from there.

Well, there's the problem. My clan and many players that come from MAG really enjoy objective based FPS games. Which means you have to exclude the Entire CoD series and MoH, and while BF offers some things, it's game play doesn't interest us (nor does the lag switch friendly environment).

There's a huge mass of FPS console players out there that are pretty intelligent that want a game that has more to offer than Team Death Match. What we ask for has been on FPS games since PS2...we're talking almost 7 years here since the release of one of the best games, GUI wise I've ever played, BF2MC.

And yet, here we are, 2011 and no one has come out with an FPS game that incorporates RPG elements into an objective based game with great game play (and maybe some vehicles) that has clan support and a real handle on balance.

There are games that have elements of this, but not a single one that has all of them. In many regards, I see a lot of FPS games have taken steps backwards. So much focus is on "tricks" and graphics...which is really an indictment on the player base of console gamers, a more lackluster group of slack jawed yokels I haven't seen since the last Hatfield and McCoys get together. It is hard to blame the industry when CoD sells millions. If that's what the base wants, it's hard to not sell it to them.

However, there is a a large group of players that have put 1000's of hours in TF2, MAG, and other games that are NOT CoD or CoD rip offs. I've been waiting for someone out there to realize that. I thought Brink would satisfy many of the criteria that attracts players like myself to a game. Most of the things that Brink was getting slammed for in reviews was the stuff I was pumped about.

But without some really basic stuff that has been in a lot of other franchises, all the really cool parts of this game are pointless if you can't build a community around it.

When it comes to online gaming, the game brings the players, but it;s the players that stay; all the whiners, the champions, the QQ'ers, the BS artists, all of 'em, make the game stick.

With Brinks current state, there is no chance for a community period.

"someone disagrees with me, so they are ignorant"..is what I pretty much read at the start.

UIs are generally one of the *easiest* things to implement in a program. Hell, I started making basic UIs for programs in between classes during high school. That is, when it comes down to it, what many people are annoyed about. Any sort of "basic" clan support will greatly help many aspect of this game. I know of *many* people in my clan ( through other games ), that are putting off buying Brink purely because there is zero clan support.

There are a ton of people out there looking for something new that is :
a) competitive ( clan vs clan support )
B) object oriented
c) team work oriented

B and C are met. A ( and its a huge one ) is missing completely.

No clan support is hurting their sales. If I can think of a dozen or more people off hand that avoiding the game purely because of that issue..I have to think there are a ton more I don't know that are also.

I totally agree with Battlecry. I, too, am from a PS3 clan that want to take on another game for our member to play, but was disappoint that there was no clan or group support. We love the game play, and this would be great for clan battles which we did not get in MAG another great FPS. So get with it or you won't see my clan getting RAGE or future games from you guys.
