Definately not as advanced as some other games on the market, but for a Bethesda game, I'd say they are damned impressive!

well duh, theyre all based off of the same head mesh, much like actual humans. considering human eyes are designed to easily see details in people's faces that any other race would have to squint to see, of course youre gonna notice that they all have the same base shape. dragon age had the same problem, and DA2, and mass effect, and so does any game that builds its npcs from a character creator.

as a matter of fact, reality has that problem... sometimes i just cant tell you people apart

Trying to say that all humans all look alike?

That's racist!

On a more serious note, I really don't see the resemblance myself. But even if the human races did look similar to one another, at least they look better than human races in Oblivion. Watching a comparison video, it looks like human heads in Oblivion were modeled around fishbowls. I think that they have done a magnificent job with all of the character models, and they will tide me over just fine until I start ragging on them when Elder Scrolls VI comes out.

Outside of skin color and hair color, what separates the appearance of humans in real life?

Lots and lots of other facial features?

Compare Eskimos, Aborginians, Asians, Africans (south of Sahara anyways), Indians, W. Europeans just to mention a few
and you will see that there are MANY very specific differences in their appearance other than the color of their skin and the
color of their hair.

As far as the game goes. It looks from what I have seen so far that Bethesda has outdone themselves in the way the different
races all have their very own and unique look about them. Light-years ahead of all the butt-ugly and non-believable characters
from Oblivion.

I like the faces: the presets are similar but I think the variety is realistic.

You can definitely tell they are made by the same character designers from previous games (textures, especially the hair), but with a lot more experience and resources behind them.

I'm really excited to make my old, gray Ashlander hermit, that's gonna be fuuuuuun!

All I am going to say is have you ever played another :tes: game?

These new models gave me such a sigh of relief when I saw them. The similarities you mention are probably being based off the presets and or cosmetic variations (which would use the same preset but show off a different hairstyle, tattoo, scar etc.

I am just ecstatic that I won't have to pine for a new head mesh mod before I could start tolerating what my character looks like.

Here is my Breton - Imperial - Nord comparison: http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/2445/imperialbretonnordcompa.png (Warning: Large Image)

Note: Sorry for the lack of detail in the Nords, their pre-set image was smaller.

This^

Despite living in different parts of the world, they are all similar. Just like the people of skyrim, or anywhere else.

A lot. With The Sims 2 I could make almost any face I wanted, and make people I knew. With Sims 3, they are remarkably similar--"puddings", as Sims fans call them. They all look like siblings. That said, I agree with Faysal that the in game characters in Skyrim seem to have more variation than the presets. I am reserving judgement until I have worked with the character creation to see just how varied I can make the faces.

Yup, all the races faces look purty! :hubbahubba: (even though the elves are pretty in a scary sort of way!)
