If it's bright in the room your playing some areas appear to be a lot darker than they are. If you have 100 Lockpick you could go into the door in the side of the broken half and there are plenty of air pockets. I suggest you go into the Options and fiddle with the brightness slider

Edit: Just out of curiosity, are you really a 53 year old woman who plays this game? :)

:celebration: this is how you do it, first of all to keep from drowning, swim up to the air pocket, don't panic, after you are in the water, turn on your pip boy light, look at the local map, and you'll see the door, you intially have to go through like a corridor, but once you swim through that, go up to the air pocket, take your time once your time, look at the map again and go back underwater and look for the door, if you can't find it pretty quick just swim back up to the air pocket, then go down and look for the door again, its not a huge area so its pretty easy one you know there's air pockets, after you get through the door, you're still in a lot of water but keep moving forward, you'll eventually be able to walk and once you're walking basically, there is another door you need to open, its pretty linear but there are a couple ways to go intitially but only one way goes through and you'll see some stairs that go up, there's mimerelurks there, usually two of em, you'll need a shotgun or rifle, when you go up the steps you can go two ways, one way is toward pinkertons lab, the other way is to the door thats locked from the outside, there is a lever you can switch and it unlokcs the door, be carefull there are booby traps in the ship, i won't tell you where but don't rush around in there or you'll get tweaked out, take your time and disarm any booby traps mines etc and you'll eventually make your way to pinkertons lab. thats how you do it.

Prioritize

First, address the drowning: Stay near the surface and duck under to look around. (There's no place you need to dive deeply, so don't amplify the risk by doing so)

Second, a bit more information please- have you made it inside the ship's bow section, or are you drowning trying to get even that far?

Third, if you've made it inside immediately move forward and up for air- then straight across the room you enter, somewhat rightward along the wall, is a door. Grab a breath, go under and open it. Another breath, dive and through- continue straight until the corridor dead-ends, it also gets shallower as you go allowing you to stay surfaced. Watch for doors along the left side of this corridor.

Hopefully those tips help somewhat.

It it is any consolation, I drowned a couple times trying to figure out that entrance. The advice to swim up to get air, and to check your map is good. I tend to get a little panicky in underwater situation where I am being attacked... but the way in isn't to far, you'll get there. :)

I drowned a couple times first time as well. If you take "a couple" to mean "around seven or so."

The control scheme being so similar to Oblivion didn't help...three times I drowned after hitting 7 then C to cast Water Breathing only to realize oops- wrong game. ;)

Oh, you and me both. I can figure some out, and sometimes I just end up scratching my head. But as you said, that's what forums are for. And Wikis. Once I get annoyed enough, I'll hit a Wiki and try to read the minimum possible to point me in the right direction.

But glad you're rolling again. And- is it just me, or does Pinkerton really like his privacy? :D

You're actually an average player. Most people think the typical gamer is between 16 and 20 but the overall average is more like 30 according to a study I came across once.

I never drowned on my first try navigating the Broken Bow. However, I have drowned a couple times in subsequent attempts on other characters. One time I did it perfectly and got to the best place to come out of the water. I'll be damned if I can repeat that feat.

That's good to hear. Maybe regulations regarding games will start to mature up too :D

You have NO idea how many times I drowned. Its really difficult getting to Pinkerton. Killed him just for that. Good thing is that when you finally reach him. There is this switch which allows you to enter the area from the front door without having to go through all that swimming. Or if you have 100 lockpick skills then just pick that door and your in!

I'm 25 years old :P Yeah just a little computer geek humor there, 25 is 10 0000 in binary, or in decimal, 32.

I rarely wait for 100 lockpick skill, but sometimes I do; it does make getting in easier.

42 here.

This bit gave me fits as well until I found the air pockets. I still tend to get rattled if I'm being attacked by the damn Mirelurks while I'm trying to find my way out. I also resent Dogmeat a little bit around there - stupid mutt never seems to have trouble. I guess postholocaust dogs have gills or something. :P

I put followers by the locked door, tell 'em to wait, and then pick 'em up when I get to the other side.
