Not just Skyrim

Post » Wed Jul 13, 2011 8:23 pm

I for one know that I'm going to love Skyrim. ES games just get better and better in my opinion.

My ultimate RPG fantasy game would be for Beth to one day in the near future release a ES game that covered the entire continent of Tamriel. Not just provinces, but the entire landmass.

I discussed this with my friend who disagreed and stated that he preferred the game being smaller and manageable as he didn't like getting lost in Morrowind (he hasn't played OB).

Just wondering what the rest of you fellow forumers think.

If it could be done well in a decent time frame, sure why not.

Whole of Tamriel? Pfft. The whole of Nirn is my ideal TES RPG (and one of my ideal open-world RPGs, second only to Arda).

I'd want it to be huge though - much bigger than Daggerfall. And much more detailed / less generic.

We already had one. It's called Arena :P.

But honestly, that would take so much memory it wouldn't be funny. Maybe in a few generations of consoles it can become possible, but it would take longer than Duke Nukem Forever to come out and still be as detailed as even Oblivion. I'd rather they focus on a single area and make it nice and big and detailed.

I rather have one well detailed province then all of them and less detailed. And it would take years to make a game like that.

There's already Daggerfall. But yes, if at all possible.

You bet I want that! But we'd have to wait another 5 years for that. Still, it would be awesome to ride on a forest through the vast open plains of Cyrodiil only to cross over to the thickly forested Valenwood. But to implement that, we'd need about 8 or 9 disks. One for each province.

I would love it but I don't think it wil happen for a long long time. The next gen of consoles won't be able to handle something like that and I doubt it would be PC exclusive.

Also the time to develop it would be astronomical. Skyrim has taken 5 years, so to do the other 8 provinces to the same level of detail would take another 40 years. Either that or they have to increase their team from 100 to 900 people.

I really would love it to happen I just don't think it ever will.

I appreciate it wouldn't be possible on current PCs and Consoles. But they say that technology esp. computing power increases exponentialy every 5 years (I think thats the right number) or so. I'm an optimist. I think it may be possible in the near future on a very powerful machine. But yes I agree the man-hours involved would be huge.

Duke Nukem wasn't in production for a long time because of how hard it was to make. It took forever because the company lost funding 2 or 3 times. For the record though... the game still svcks.

I don't know what the record is for most people developing a single game but I think this would smash it into the middle of next century

Nope. Not yet. Not until bethesda has enough gaming developers to increase the time it takes to make a quality game by 600-700%. Not to mention revisiting the Imperial City would be...boring to say the least. If you wan't a giant plot of land to run around on, set a game in Akavir or somewhere else we haven't been.

I never played Arena (started from Morrowind). Was it really that big?

Could you go everywhere in Tamriel and did it 'feel' that large of a continent?

I would love to see this happen, and this doesn't seem impossible either especially since you can get games like Fuel that are massive and have a lot of detail... But to be fair they'd have to get scales right because the land of Tamriel is out of whack at the moment as the map of Daggerfall is [censored] massive and Cyrodiil which is supposedly the biggest area is in comparison really small.lol

I voted yes, but it would take a very long time to develop. Consider that Skyrim is the first TES game in five years, and it's only ONE are. While having the whole continent would be great, I just don't see it being possible for a while. Here's to hoping, though.

3 to 5 years to make one elder scrolls and there are about 9 lands multiplay that and well the numbers of years we would have to wait would be incredible.and if they did decide to do it how would so much data and memory be handled?.only the riches people with the most high tec machines would be able to play it.unless they turn it in to an mmo.

Well ya it did feel big, I kept running in Helstrom, Black Marsh for about 40 mins, not knowing about the fast travel -.-

Daggerfall was HUGE though, devs say it was half as big, if not, as big as Britain!

Yes but it wouldn't be the Imperial City from Oblivions time, it would be the Imperial City a few hundred years after (like Skyrim). Sorry I forgot to add that in the original post.

It would be great to revisit Cyrodiil again in Elder Scrolls IX, the Imperial City in ruins and covered in vines or the other cities changed or evolved over the years. Not just out of nostalgia's sake, but a great arcing quest as well.

My mate still disagrees with me. His head is about to explode just thinking how lost he'll get from exploring the world ha ha :)

The nice thing about having separate provinces (or w/e) is that it allows the devs to focus on a particular time in the history of Tamriel.

I disagree. They could make the Imperial City larger, more detailed, more NPCs, more intelligent AI, better economic system, etc. etc.

It wouldn't be revisiting because it'd be a completely overhauled vision. I think you'd be far from bored ;)
