HEY GUYS! i actually just fixed this problem for myself.. try checking your Direct X files and reinstall them all... I was trying to play Heros of the Storm and I hit two birds with one stone *~*

I got mine to boot for no explainable reason. but i had left it in borderless window mode, so i quit. now it wont boot again?!

Can't confirm the directx fix works since i'm on windows 10 and there is no manual directx update for it. Trying to update it via windows update right now

Well I changed absolutely nothing, not even a reboot and it has started working. No idea why, but I'll go with it for the moment.

launch it as a window so u can see the task manager at the same time.

I'm having the exact same problem, after clicking play it just goes to a black screen for about 3 seconds and then crashes as if I never even tried to open the game... Any help?

I've given up, I wasted my day off trying to get it to load and I have went to the point of reinstalling everything possible and it is still not working.

I got my refund, hopefully they'll fix it before they lose to many people to something so stupid.

Edit: I'm also disappointed in the lack of response from Bethesda to their community.

This is very frustrating. I am pretty computer Savvy and I am stumped. I click Play at the Launcher and the game closes instantly every single time no matter what I try.

-Ive completely reinstalled the latest nVidia drivers after removing all old files.

-Ive run the game on medium, low, high settings, window mode, different resolutions, refresh rates, vSync enabled and disabled, anything graphical related I could think of.

-Ive set everything to compatibility mode, gave all exe's administrative permissions, turned off my fire wall, and my anti virus program.

-Windows 7 64 bit is completely up to date and Ive restarted the computer every time I changed anything.

-Ive cleaned my computer of all programs that could be effecting the game and just generally cleaned up everything. (I keep my computer very clean anyway)

-Ive completely uninstalled the game and re-downloaded it.

-Ive tried different settings with my audio drivers to no avail.

-My computer specs shouldn't be an issue. 8GB of ram, i7 4790k, nVidia 980 ti, Samsung SSD.

I am very close to requesting a refund.

What gives Bethesda?

Game was working fine for me last night and then after the update today I started having this issue. Would click play, black screen would come up with a spinning icon and nothing would happen. I spent hours trying various tricks, verified files, turning off steam settings, etc, but no go. Then after reading through one particular article this is what worked for me.

- Edit c:\Users\\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\Fallout4Prefs

- changed bFull Screen=1 to bFull Screen=0

??- save changes

??started to work right away. Previously I had been editing the file within the steam folder with no effect, this one did the trick. I think whatever they changed in the update screwed up something with the BInk video player or whatever they use and this is what is wigging out. Hope this helps some other people and saves some headaches.

System: Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz, ASUS P8Z77-V MB, AMD Radeon 7800 Series Latest Beta Driver 15.11, 8 GB ram, Corsair SSD drive, Windows 10 64bit latest build and updates

NATIVE GRAPHICS WORKING AFTER INTEL/WINDOWS UPDATE YESTERDAY

So NOW I get offered an update by Windows for the HD Graphics 4600 - uncanny timing that. Had to set it to low and turn anti-aliasing off but running at full resolution (no window mode). Haven't checked the gameplay yet but thought I ought to post this in case it saves anyone else forking out for a graphics card they do not need.

Windows 10, Core I-5 processor with 4GB RAM, HD Graphics 4600 NATIVE graphics (basic PC).

Hello,

I had the windows update yesterday, no change.

I can't update the drivers (lenovo hardware with intel graphics refusing to install as it's an oem hardware).

I manage to launch the game this morning, i runned the game on laptop screen instead of external one : external is a 16:10 and internal 16:9

Worked well even with external screen with actual config file UNTIL i have to get out of the cryogenic pod... games exit again without warning or error...

anyone got a tip to go further?

I pay a lot of money to play this game, all i have was appcrash and free day from work lost when i try fix this joke. I have the same issue, and this is so bad from Bethesda, this is my last game from this company. And they dont even react to the problems, i send them mail and no response either. I think i will just refund this crappy broken game. I wanna my money back cuz no one will give back my lost of free time. I feel cheated and frustrated.

Having the same issue. Launch game, menu comes up, click Play, it sometimes goes to detecting video, says video card not recognised, set to low quality, click OK, then error message, the fallout exe has an error (paraphrasing). Nvidia 9800 GT, just installed latest driver, Win7 64bit.

That GPU is ancient, probably the issue for you.
