Not much of a spoiler... The Dark Brotherhood

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:58 am

Does anyone else feel that the Dark Brotherhood quest line is lacking a lot?

None of the contracts to kill someone have a reason or any type of story to it, and there is no skill needed whatsoever to kill the target. Its very disappointing to me that
I don't have to stalk my targets and learn what they do throughout their day, like I had to in Oblivion. Every contract is just "This is a person's name, go to this obvious
place, kill them, and return". And the fact that there is no story as to why I'm killing these people makes it feel so... pointless, and not meaningful at all.

There also isn't any type of reward for going the extra mile by following the directions completely. But... this would go along with the above.

I haven't finished the entire quest line yet, but I'm a good ways in. The story overall so far isn't nearly as appealing and deceitful as the Oblivion story either. The story seems to
be progressing way too fast and my rank in the Dark Brotherhood continues to increase extremely quickly. Hell, one of the first quests made me the Listener... I just don't feel
connected to any of the characters at all.

Is it just me...?

ALSO: I don't mean to hate on the game, and besides this I LOVE IT. Everything else I've experienced is amazing and has completely lived up to my hype.

(except I'm leveling way too fast... level 27 already. Wish it took more to level up as well :sadvaultboy: )

Yeah, I'm not gonna do the dark brotherhood quest line. I've always found it too sick and demented and from what I've heard of the quests in Skyrim it's nowhere near as refreshing and unique as undoing a animal plaque (like we got to do in Oblivion)....

... I'm excited that I found Cicero on the road and I can report him to a guard! I wonder what will happen.

I've also heard there's a destroy the dark brotherhood quest line so I'll be doing that one.

The thieves guild was excellent, but short.

Well to me i dont care much for the story, but im pretty sure all of them have a reason to/why for hiring an assassin. Second, im only a few missions in, and your target will most likely be sleeping like every other normal person in Skyrim during the night. So if your going in expecting them to be walking around at 3am your in for disappointment. You can always give yourself an added challenge i guess.

I was hoping at least the Thieves Guild would be good... I only made an wrong-doing archer / assassin type character because of the Dark Brother and Thieves Guild quest lines...

Its too bad I'm so far into the game, otherwise I'd role more of a good, warrior type character to better fit the other quest lines.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

Don't know how to put the spoiler thing in...

From what I heard from others if you report him the farmer is later found dead...
Cicero will also remember you from the road...
I helped him sooo...He was happy...But I doubt he would be really happy if you reported him...He'll probably call you mean or something...

I love the DB quest line. It really felt like a family, which the DB in Oblivion did not. Each member actually felt unique other than just two and each had diverse personalities.

The questline WAS short and was mainly revolved around two elements. You being listener, but the others not accepting it and you killing a high ranking official.

Sure it was very sick and morbid at parts, but since my character is like that, I found it... a guilty pleasure.

I agree the Dark Brotherhood questline is just total garbage. Not even half way in
Spoiler
You become Listener even though you've done nothing.
The guild mates are boring and uninteresting. At the end
Spoiler
It was the best, the boat quest was pretty fun and you finally got to do something sneaky, however just before it all the wrong people died in the sanctuary which made it rubbish.

Also there were only like no quests in which you went in sneaky and had to talk to someone to get it done, as well as being pointless bonuses for completing it.
