Hi all,

When i open CS it loads fine till it gets to Initializing Windows, which it then says that its not responding. I then click on it and it says that windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is found. How do i fix this so i can make mods?

Let it finish loading and ignore the windows messages.

i let it load then it stops, goes a white colour and says that TES:CS Is Not Responding. Then i left it a bit longer and the windows message pops up and i can only click close.

Are you 'starting' the CS, or has it started and you are loading the Oblivion.esm file?

It must be installed in the same folder as the game. And if you have Vista or Windows 7, and you installed the game in the default 'Program Files' folder, that is just asking for problems.

im trying to start CS not load oblivion.esm. i have vista but i installed the game and CS on my external hard drive. CS is installed in the same folder as the game.

I would try and get it off the external hard drive, and to your home drive (%homedrive% usually = C:\) to a folder called games

C:\Games\Oblivion

At very worse once doing this, turn off UAC, right click the shortcut properties, click advance, tick "Run as Administrator"

Once sorting that out then post how you go

There is no reason to turn UAC off if its not installed in the protected 'Programs Files' folder. Installing the game to C:\Games\ would be the safest place to install it and still get the CS to work.
The issue also might have to do with drivers or any other number of problems.

Nope it still didnt work in the C:\Games\Oblivion directory

Well since no one else has had any suggestions, lets try your directx, i cant see your drivers being out of date with such a old game, but maybe something is going on there

Navigate to the below and start up directx, once it finishes, save all information, and post those results

C:\Windows\System32\dxdiag.exe

Just be sure your shortcut properties for the CS is set by right clicking the shortcut, click advance under shortcut tab, tick "Run as Administrator"

I would also suggest renaming the cs ini file for it to regenerate a new one
Win 7 or Vista location

C:\Users\YourAccount\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ConstructionSet.ini

XP will be something like below by rough guess

C:\Documents and Settings\YourAcccountName\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ConstructionSet.ini

Just to check, Oblivion runs on your computer? The CS has the same requirements (if not a bit more) then the game does....it used to come up, but not so much any more.

Tes oblivion runs, no it has never opened and yes cs has the same requirements... I'll try tigerpaws suggestion asap

Cant believe this slipped my mind as it is probably one of the most common problems is, to make sure if you patched oblivion to be using the CS v1.2. Or if oblivion is unpatched to be running CS v1.0

From what i could make out on the net is to get the redistributable DirectX for vista and try a repair or update. Note there is not much info in solving the directshow problem, but a codex update might do the trick as well, but im not sure of the 3rd party codexs you have since that part of the directx is missing

Im running CS v1.0 for the unpatched oblivion, i downloaded the DirectX thing for vista and it still doesnt work
