Not recognizing dedicated card

Post » Thu Jun 25, 2015 8:46 pm

So Skyrim only Recognizes my on board graphics card. My computer has two. The Radeon R7 (on board) and the R9 255 (dedicated)

My Specs are:

A8-Series APU A8-7600 (3.10GHz)

8GB DDR3 1TB HDD 8GB SSD

Windows 8.1 64-Bit

AMD Radeon R9 255 2 GB

64 bit Quad-Core Processor

Skyrim only comes up with the option for the R7. I have seen the NVIDIA tweak guide, but as I have a Radeon, that doesn't help much.

Wondering if updating the drivers would help? I just checked my R9 and it said "Driver date: 6/22/14"

If so, should I use the CD that came with the computer, or just directly download it from the options in the Device Manager?

I have the same type of computer with AMD apu and Skyrim mentions only the board card, but it actually uses the dedicated card. What settings did it choose when you started it first? Your drivers should be the same for both the r7 and that dedicated card too. Take a look. :)

What's your computer, the Lenovo Erazer X315 ??? ( back side on your case)

Is you HDMI (VGA) cabel connected to your on-board or your dedicated GPU ???

Yes, it is the Erazer.

I only saw one Vga plug in, and one hd plug in

My monitor is a Vga, no hdmi. So it is probably in the on board slot. I will check when I get home.

It chose High settings by default, but that lags for some reason. Medium runs fine.

Actually, my point was - to connect your Monitor to your dedicated GPU behind your case and not on the motherboards vga connector.

EDIT: So I just checked, my computer does not have a second VGA port like that. The port in the place in that photo is much longer and thinner. I think its a DVI.

Yep, just checked. Its a DVI. So I'll have to get a DVI to VGA cable. Oh well. XD They aren't that expensive.
