I'm not satisfied without hardcoe mode..

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 6:07 am

Sure we can pretend that survival difficulty is awesome.. but I'm not happy. And if I'm not there must be some dedicated fallout fans who are with me. Where is the hydration meter? What about sleep? Rads? Sure I see the cheesy little Rad meter.. No management screen. What happened did I get the Chinese version of the pip boy? I feel like I lost a whole dimension of the game. These ARE actual survival statistics.. My bad but this just feels too easy on survival. I want it to be replayable. I was hoping to start on hardcoe and quit because it was too hard then start on a lower difficulty. Is anyone with me on this or am I just crazy and love the punishment? Please include in DLC..!!

You're in a very small minority, but don't worry, soon there will be mods to make the game as "hardcoe" as you want.

"dedicated fallout fans"? heh? New vegas was the ONLY game to have that, and that is only because it was not made by Bethesda, who have no intensest in putting in so much work for a system only a minoirty will play.

you would expect that in a survival game... And Fallout NV was popular?

Obsidian made just as many Fallout games as Bethesda.

not anymore, and Bethesda has never had such a feature in any of their TES games, so why expect them to have it in their fallout games?

Given how much food heals... and how cheaper and easier it can be to acquire then say stimpacks. Chances are you'll be eating and drinking on a regular basis just so you won't die from gunshot wounds.

Only one of which had food and drink needs

It is not, not has it ever been marketed or classified as a survival game. If that were the case we'd have far fewer guns and ammo. Our carrying capacity would be realistic and we'd only have main weapon, sidearm and a small melee to "survive" with. It's not a survival game

I added that because he was acting like Bethesda has mad every Fallout game besides NV. Obsidian/its predecessor made 2 games, Beth made 2 games. And Black Isle was pretty far on their third.

Did I ever say that? No.

None the previous games that were made by black isle had such a system either and bethesda is clearly completely uninterested in such a system as none of their games have ever had it.

Actually, memory served me right - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Food- food has been in every single FO game. That said, it only ever had a prominent use in FNV.

This was suggested before, but instead of hunger, thirst, and fatigue meters, I'd rather they double down/add on buffs for each. You do have the well rested mechanic, but it's really not strong enough to make a difference. For easier modes, it wouldn't be all that necessary, but on latter difficulties it should be balanced so that it makes fights a bit easier.

Rested - You feel well rested and ready for action! Gain 50 AP.

Full - You feel strong and well nourished. Gain 30 lbs of carry weight and you deal 10% more damage.

Hydrated - You're well hydrated and your body is in a happy state of equilibrium! Gain 10 DR and 15 rads resistance.

Satisfied - Having all your needs met (rested, full, and hydrated), you can focused on the task at hand without worry. Gain 30% more XP.

Yes, many dedicated fans were disappointed. There are several threads in this forum with similar complain already. "Survival difficulty" is not really survival, just other name for more hard then very hard ;)

Meh.

With the exception of needing splints none of the stuff from NV is anything I can in good conscience call hardcoe. The all too easy to fix needs were irrelevent from the get-go because there was plenty of beds everywhere, and there was hardly any irradiated water to speak of. Even irradiated food was easy enough to ignore because of fresh foods. Ammo weight was sorta neat but not hindering in any real way. It all amounted to pretty much getting a splinter, Sure they might cause discomfort but their not serious enough to slow anyone down.

I like this, it incentivizes eating/drinking/sleeping rather than making it a mandatory thing. RND in Skyrim was fun at first but quickly became a game of spamming bowls of soup - it became more of a hindrance.

So many threads about this and so many people asking for it, a poll that was over 70% for wanting hardcoe mode and then comments like "you are a small minority". /facepalm

For you. I loved it in all my playthroughs. Can't play a character without it in fact.

Personally, I'd prefer realistic penalties instead :/

Yup, the amount of people on this forum are a very small minority, polls do not mean much

Agreed -

Sleep, food, water, and limited carrying capacity are all needed

And certainly to each their own. That said, if you go the penalty route, you almost assuredly have to relegate it to a separate mode/choice. You have to "opt-in" essentially. By going the reward route, you could include it in the base game and people can either use it or not without worry of being handicapped - but definitely giving an edge to taking advantage of it. Players on harder modes could then view it as another layer of min/maxing their character for fights.

- - - - - EDIT - - - - - -

Basically what I'm suggesting is to make the buffs so rewarding that you feel nerf'ed without them if you constantly take advantage of them. However, players who don't care or bother with it won't notice a difference and nobody has to opt-in or out of it.

I'm not putting these posts on here to discuss the how when or who did what.. I miss the challenge of balancing weight.. because I had to choose what weapons I liked best.. only carry those.. carry the right ammo. Have enough food water and stimpacks. Be sure to take a nap before I leave.. unload all of my extra stuff into my locker.. get some cold nuka cola.. check my chemistry set for meds.. check my weight.. also are my weapons repaired fully. Now lets head into the wasteland.
That's how I rolled out..! Now it's like ok, stimpack.. I'm ready lets head out. Also why can't I repair.. that's another complaint. I made a living off of killing and repairing weapons. I used ammo as a currency and never left a trader with much cash or good items. I just feel like the new fallout should be MORE!! I have seen someone who knew how I felt reply but we seem to be a minority..

There has also been numerous threads over the years from people wanting the option of becoming Ghouls and Super Mutants. Should those be added into the game too simply because "so many people" want them?

Eh I'd much rather have mods do a hardcoe mode, because they would do a better job of implementing them.

No, but I would like a logical explanation behind the scattered super mutants throughout Boston. I'm just assuming some went nomad and settled in Boston from Vault 87

Artmonkey I have to say I agree with everything you have posted on this subject..great ideas just along the way I was thinking. Bonuses for smart management and penalties for those wanting balance and challenge.
