Not sure if to play game or not :(

Post » Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:41 am

Q_Q A while ago I stopped playing Skyrim because when I went to Markarth the guards started to attack me! And I tried about everything I could literally and nothing help.... also I started a very awesomesauce character and I don't know if some of my mods were causing this so I didn't reload a save because I didn't want to risk this stuff happening again so I stopped playing.... I mean to be exact their dialogue didn't work! And I think they started to go full [censored] FU logic and started to attack me. I think it all started because I got to level 12 or 13 and that activated the guy in the bannered mare to appear and maybe because of that it started???? But I once reloaded a save and did that quest and still they kept attacking me :( What should I do? Like I said tried a lot of things and didn't work... filthy bastards.. OK EVEN when I was doing the quest for the Sanguine Rose the when I stopped being drunk and came out of the temple that was when I was attacked so WTF??????????? HALPPP

This was a common glitch in the vanilla game on all platforms, so it's not mod-related at all. It was an infinite dialog loop bug with the quest The Forsworn Conspiracy. It was supposed to have been fixed with the 1.4 patch, though.

The Foresworn Conspiracy worked for me, prior to 1.4. But, there were some conditions that could trigger the bug that have been patched out.

Also, the Unofficial Patches are up to snuff, so that can help also. However, I never ran into a situation that needed those patches before I added them.

I don't think I started that quest prior to 1.4, due in part to people experiencing this glitch. It also could be due to the simple fact that in all of my playthroughs, Markarth is the last city that I get around to visiting, and is the city I spend the least amount of time in. I just don't like the place, at all. At any rate, I have completed the quest two or three times and have not experienced the glitch.

Try this:

1. Travel to Markarth
2. Walk up to a city guard and begin the "You've committed crimes..." dialog
3. Do not select any dialog options
4. Hit the tilde key ( `/~ key above the tab key) to bring up the console
5. Using either the game pad or the mouse position the cursor right in the middle of the guard's head and click on his head. You should now see a hex code in the console. It is important that it is the guard's head - not his body.
6. Type paycrimegold into the console and hit enter

You'll hear the gold "cha ching" sound and the game will teleport you somewhere random in Markarth. Hit tilde again to exit the console and the glitch will now be fixed. You can interact with Markarth as per normal. This is not cheating as the bounty on your head cannot be cleared by normal means and the bounty should have been lifted at the end of the quest so you aren't breaking the game.

Please tell me when did first visit Markarth. Through the Sanguine Rose or not? And I also went there sometimes on a wagon. Don't think it matters if on wagon or not.

My first time playing? I honestly don't remember, but it was probably on foot. On subsequent characters I've usually made my first Markarth visit through the A Night to Remember quest (the quest for the Sanguine Rose). Like you said, I don't believe the way you travel to Markarth has anything to do with this glitch, but I'm not really sure which conditions in the game can trigger the bug.
