Not Sure What To Think of 1080p30fps

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 1:23 pm

I'm a console gamer (Xbox One). I for one has never really cared or worried about the resolution and frames of a game, besides Battlefield 4 and maybe Halo. I feel pretty satisfied that Fallout 4 will be 1080p on the consoles for sure, or well it was stated, I think it will make Fallout look more lively.

Should I feel different on this? I haven't really cared for Fallout 3/NV fps. Should I be concerned with 30 fps for Fallout 4 on the consoles though since it's next gen?

The whole frame rate thing is purely preference. Nobody is going to change your mind about liking 60fps over 30. But since we're stuck at 30 FPS, you may have to just get used to it.

I personally like 30fps in my games. It feels more cinematic. Theres something very "videogamey" about 60fps.

Take it with a grain of salt, and wait for confirmation. But I guess that's not the way we do it 'round these here parts.

If that's the case modding on console will definitely be very light. Definitely no to texture packs etc...

I personally like 60fps in my games. It feels more responsive. There's something very "movie-ish" about 30fps.

I imagine it's tricky to get these games running smoothly at 60fps consistently. I don't really agree that lower FPS is beneficial or all that cinematic in fast-paced games, but I would much prefer a solid 30 frames per second instead of 60 with noticeable hiccups.

It's a design choice on consoles that we can't make conclusions about until the game is out and we see that it is locked at 30 fps. If you definitely want the 60 fps experience then get a decent computer, this is how it is for most cross-platform games.

Don't count on many open world games to run at over 30 frames on XBO/PS4 for the rest of this gen. The hardware isn't that amazing.

WatchDogs, Batman, GTA, Farcry, Witcher, FO4, etc are capped at 30. They even had to add a 30 fps cap option to Infamous because the drops were getting nuts.

MGSV is 60 fps, but it look worse than all of those, including FO4 (except for D-Dog vs. DogMeat, oddly enough) and has a much less dense world.

Is PC capped at 30fps too? If so, that's ridiculous. Some modder will figure out how to uncap it anyway if true but its still ridiculous.

I have seen some Fallout 4 gameplay that was running (in the YouTube video as well) at 60 frames, I think we can rest assured that PC will not have any lame framerate restrictions! Either way you're right Shadow some modder will figure it out ASAP in the worst case.

If you care enough about resolution and framerate, then you should be playing on PC. If you've been strictly (or almost strictly) console gaming for years, then you really won't notice it. It's good enough for most people.

Framerate > graphical fidelity for me. I'd rather have less shadows or lower textures than a low frame rate.

Not mutch to think about after Peter Hines did make clear that what the magazine wrote (were the false information cam from) is nonsens.

This. BGS has not talked at all about to anyone about the framerate/resolution, so anything you hear is mostly just made it.

But, you know, it is something to [censored] about, so everyone jump on the bandwagon. ;-)

Join the darkside brother we have a PC waiting for you :P

The cinematic experience is because (if I recall correctly) movies are shot at 24fps. I personally prefer the realistic/immersive 60fps but as awesome as it is I can understand your choice in preferring cinematic also depends on your playstyle in some way

30fps is only a little higher then what a movie is shot at so the cinematic/moveish feeling is probably because of that.

Yep. Something weird like 23.976 FPS for film. :P

I hope my comment didn't sound like I was shoving my opinion down anyone's throats as I see one user mocked me. That wasn't my intention.

Not just any bandwagon, but the PC vs. Console bandwagon that is travelling through it's-holding-us-back town.

Overall frame rate isn't as important as consistency. I'd much rather have a consistent 30fps than a 40-60 variable.

This. Hopefully on the X1 there will be no screen tearing and hopefully there is an option to cap it at 30. My preference would likely be cap it at 30 and have it at 720p that way I might be able to make mods more stable on the X1. Likely not be using any texture mods unless it is to downgrade them or if it is to add new gear.

I'm hoping for 2 options, one that's 720P/60FPS and another that's 1080P/30FPS. 60FPS is really good and while I can live with 30, it's not better then 60. Now if that 60 is unstable then I'd rather have a 30 but most of the time 60 over 30.

No no I get what you mean haha its not like your the kind of person who says cinematic is more realistic then 60fps and the human eye can't see 60fps...nevertheless I get what you were trying to say.

I would be extremely upset, to the point of not buying it, if the PC version was capped on any level. The 1080 cap for me would be especially unacceptable. It's kind of ridiculous, I hope it was just a miscommunication.
