Depends where you're approaching from. If you've initiated the Back in your own backyard quest by approaching along the road from Novac, it shouldn't be a problem, so I'm guessing you've initiated Restoring hope and are approaching from Camp FL.

So, you can either go back to save made before you initiated the quest or when you meet up with the squad opt to approach via the ridge. You'll be met by two or three Legion on the way up the gully and you try just running past them to get into Nelson while the soldiers deal with them or don't talk to the squad at all and head into Nelson by yourself.

I should have been more specific. I can never type and sing along with a song at the same time ^_^ I've played the game many times (it's my fav. game haha) but I haven't initiated the Forlorn Hope quest or anything else related to it. The Vet Rangers Perception picks up a patrol and he kills them. Then it leads him to Nelson...and he brush gun raqes them all.

Try moving into the cell where the ranger is from an earlier save, but before you see him, or he starts his thang, wait for 24 hours. See if he moseys on down the line a bit.

-gunny out.

Thats the rangers for you, wiping out a entire camp of legionaries single handedly. Yes they're just that good.

What I keep wondering, if the ranger vets were once upon a time the desert rangers and 'not' ncr until they integrated and they built that huge monument, WHO or what did the desert rangers (Ranger vets) work for previously??

They were just the Desert Rangers, one of the biggest groups of badasses post war America has ever seen. Mostly they fought against slavers in Nevada and did what they could to protect that region and keep it safe. When the NCR rangers first rolled into town they signed a treaty (at Mojave Outpost obviously) to join together to fight the Legion.

Hmm, so basically ncr showed up, signed a treaty with the uber rangers and then took them away to Baja, replacing them with regular troopers and a few dozen ncr rangers?
That was nice of them lol

Where were they based from though? If they were originally from the area we play around in, I keep wondering were they operated from, unless of course they were the original creators of the ranger stations?

Well basiclly after the first battle of Hoover Dam Kimbal was jealous of all the praise that the rangers and Chief Hanlon were getting, so he sent most of them to the Baja to "chase ghosts" as Hanlon put it. I really have no clue what ghosts he was talking about unless he meant surviving members of the Enclave, thats all I can figure out. And no im pretty sure they didnt build the ranger stations either, im thinking there probably weren't enough of them to need all that many not to mention they were way more widespread than just the Vegas area.

They can't be widespread if they weren't enough numbers to need stations surely?
It's not overly important, was just something that had bugged me for a while.
