What i DO like about these forums:
-modding community

What i DO NOT like:
-no discussions about religion, politics, medicine
-I can't desagree with someone or ctiticize someone/something, everything seems fake happy to me.
-I can't even call a guy "lazy" when he comes here and starts asking, when finding solution is faster than writin single post

Edit: still, i visit these forums every day ;)

You know, as long as you disagree politely and criticize constructively, you can do both. Many people do. What isn't good is disagreeing with someone by attacking the poster instead of the idea [How could you be so stupid! That isn't right, you idiot.], and criticism that consists of "That totally svcks, dude. I hate it." really doesn't do much to explain what is so bad about whatever. "I read your explanation and I can't agree with that. I've seen this [examples provided] and it looks like it would be possible, so I can't agree with your conclusion." and "That's a good idea, but it could use a little work. If you change [whatever] it would get rid of the jagged lines and improve the texture." As for calling someone lazy, if you don't want to bother answering a question, don't. It will take even less time to not reply than it does to make a post calling someone lazy. If you want, you could always post the result of a search you did to show the poster how to find the answer on their own. Maybe they'll be able to do it themselves the next time.

Talaran? Ain't you new to the mods? Can't remember your name on the list of mods

No, I've been a mod for a while. I usually don't post much in Community Discussion. Most of the time the discussions aren't about things I'm familiar with, since I don't pay too much attention to current music and movies. Right now the Dragon Age thread is about the only one I'm posting in. When we move threads and delete problem posts, we don't have to be noticeable. :ninja:

What was that joke again?

Wife: Did you know that the average woman uses 10,000 words per day, whereas the average man only uses 5,000?
Husband: What?

Interesting.... I can remember quite a few , brace your self, long, deep debates here. Its all about how civil people act and as far as the internet goes, this place is a port in the storm. If people discuss with cool, calm heads we can have great conversations here. Its just that most of the time someone gets offended that not every one agrees that they are correct and every one else is wrong.

A lack of trolls is enough of a benefit for me to warrant having to make a new account twice. It's a good forum, but some moderators make it their business to not even allow people to contact admins or complain.

That statement could not be farther from the truth. If people feel strongly about an action we have taken we encourage people to PM or email one of the community managers. I don't think any of us get bothered if someone questions us, as long as the person is being reasonably civil. I am far more inclined to listen to someone who disagrees with me without resorting to calling me a [censored], a power hungry nazi, or a [censored] [censored] or suggesting I do something anatomically impossible. I don't mind clarifying why I have taken an action against a member, nor do I mind them questioning it or complaining to an admin. If I was wrong, or the admin agrees with the member, I have no problem with that.

What i DO like about these forums:
-modding community

What i DO NOT like:
-no discussions about religion, politics, medicine

I think Talaran explained that best. I find it interesting that the people who get all bunched up because we tell them that if they have nothing but a snide remark that isn't quite a flame, but isn't actually helpful, to knock it off don't seem to realize that, as Talaran noted, it was even less effort not post a useless remark in a thread. Don't confuse reasonable civility with "fake happy"

And honestly, one of the reasons CD isn't a cesspit is because we don't allow religion and politics threads. I don't even like getting into those discussions with friends in person, and those are people I know well. Someone always ends up annoyed or upset. Magnify that by 100x when the discussion is on the internet, and people feel safe behind a degree of anonymity... :meh: And medicine? Well, if someone posts "I am bleeding from my right eye", usually by the fourth post the advice is "Kill it with fire"... yeah, in most cases if someone is having a genuine health problem - this is not the place to seek advice.

Ratwar, Regulus, Attrebus (how you could forget the mancandy is beyond me), Miltiades...

Just how could a moderator make it so you and not contact admins. Even is someone is banned and disabled they can click the "contact us" at the bottom of the the forum. In fact we all encourage members to contact one of our community managers when they disagree with an action we take.

Hahaha ... reminds me of hanging out with this boy about 15 years ago *creak*. He was this beautiful, androgynous thing with corkscrew curls and a pretty smile. It was when the band Placebo first came to prominence and he was a dead ringer for http://www.iceposter.com/thumbs/G200485_b.jpg - all smudged eyeliner and flouncy shirts.

Anyway, he turned up with a black eye one day, and I was absolutely horrified, fussing all over him as he wailed about how unfair it was, and how people were mean and would pick on him all the time, just because he was different and wanted to express himself.

So the next night we all went out, and had a great time at the club, and had a few too many snakebite-and-blacks before wandering down Tottenham Court Road to get the nightbus home.

As we were strolling down the street, he started up, "COME AND HAVE A GO IF YER THINK YER HARD ENOUGH!" and challenging passers-by to a fight.

He's not the first person to have a slightly different idea of what's fair than the rest of us have.

It's a free-to-play MMO with many, many microtransactions. Graphics are nice though, and it's got a decent physics engine which is only slightly buggy from time to time.

-no discussions about religion, politics, medicine

This to some extent is due to the nature of the forums. I know I can have a mature discussion about these topics as I know I can understand other people having opposing views. However some people can't cope with this fact. Another common issue is if you look at western forums that allow debates about politics and religion, most topics about a certain religion are highly.... uninformed. (And I mean really uninformed and inflammatory). This wouldn't look good for Bethesda as that religion makes up a large percentage of the world population.

You solve the issue by either
* Having a smallish forum (Not really possible)
* Offering an incentive for writing informative posts (The example I saw was website hosting)
* Banning the issue

-I can't desagree with someone or ctiticize someone/something, everything seems fake happy to me.

While it is true that you can't criticize in an unjustified manner, you can give constructive criticism. It is a fair rule and I think mainly to stop posts that criticize someone in a unjust way. (i.e. Your mod svcks)

-I can't even call a guy "lazy" when he comes here and starts asking, when finding solution is faster than writin single post

Give a man a fish and you have fed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you have fed him for the rest of his life.

Lets face it, eveyone has asked answers that in retrospect they think are stupid and not everyone is very good at searching. For example, if I wanted to know more about mutable default arguments in python, I would know what to search for. Someone who has been programming for a week wouldn't have a clue about the search terms needed to even find the information on google.

I will admit that there are some people who don't learn, and is possible to write a highly informative post that skirts around the issue of what you really think . While linking to snarky things like LMGTFY isn't allowed, you can (nicely) suggest some google search terms and write an explanation on how it is often faster to use google by searching for "+morrowind +modname" or whatever the search terms may be.

That's extremely true.

It took me a while to even notice where the search bar is, and longer to know how to use it and get the results I was needing.
