Nothing gives me greater pleasure than....

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:59 pm

First off, THANKYOU, Bethesda!

At this point in time nothing gives me greater pleasure than coming home after a long, hard days work, slinking down into my pjs (which, let's face it, is really only a fancy word for underwear), falling onto my amazing couch...and performing trivial acts around the cities.

I mean, yeah, intensely epic and life changing storylines are great and all...it's just after doing the hokey pokey 6742626717 times in a row (I'm a children's dance teacher) all I kind of really want to do is relax and arrange my potions. *nodnod*

Collecting ingredients, dressing mannequins, arranging my bookshelves - I love it all!

Am I the only one who likes this aspect of the game? Or am I not alone in my love for trivial acts of self satisfaction?

Please, tell me I'm no alone in my love for trivial acts of self satisfaction!

My girlfriend has been playing and all she really does is jump around, pick flowers, and loves killing elk and foxes (she lives on a farm)

Yes the pure amount of interaction with the objects is what sets Bethesda's world building apart from other games. I am playing Deus Ex Human Revolution atm and it feels empty when I go into an office space and only like 2 objects can be interacted (opened, moved, etc.( with, haha.

Haha it must be a girl thing then. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love all the kicking butt as well...it's just when my brain is mush, I like looking at all the crap I've hoarded...and arranging it *grins*

I love it. It's a little like being on Pandora from Avatar, except it's Pandora for Nords. Or should that be for nerds? :)

I also love grinding endlessly on skills I can't use because of perks that overall take longer than the very complex and interesting story line...

Yea, thats the whole attraction of the TES games :D how do you think people clock stuff like 200 hours?
Lots of time spent on "meaningless" stuff like decorating and such. I for one like to collect food; in the case of a war emergency i'll be able to stay forever in my house eating like a king everyday :celebration:

My wife and daughters do that also in Skyrim and Oblivion and even did in Morrowind.

One of the funnest things in the game for me is to go over my book collection and arrange them by subject on different bookshelves :read:

I don't think it's a girl thing necessarily...
my favorite thing to do on skyrim is killing people on sneak mode
and well, I happen to be a girl. I'm sure plenty of other females playing this game
like all the rough parts of this game as much as a guy would like them.

Personally I'd rather kill stuff and quest than play a shopping/housework simulator but it's always cool to hear about the other ways people enjoy TES, especially when it involves ideas and concepts I've never really entertained.

Offers to come clean my place up would be welcome though, it's a hell hole.

*sigh* It hurts that my mannequins turn invisible and my bookcases eat my books (PS3 :( ), my shelves explode when I put things on them after I leave.. house decoration is basically not possible at all. Which is sad because its one of my little pleasures.

I used to love making my houses into Museums to my travels. Now I'm not complaining, hopefully these things get fixed properly (I know bookcases got sorted, but I think I need a new game before this actually works).

However, I do have plans for when we have non-exploding houses(I realise there is a work around but I'd rather wait for it to be fixed);

Vlindrel Hall (Markarth) will be a Dwemer Museum, full of every Dwemer Artifacts, Related Books and Dwarven Weaponry.
Proudspire Manor (Solitude) will be a Empire Museum, dedicated to the Imperial Army, Blades, and the Civil War (Full set of Stormcloak and Imperial Armour in the basemant mannequins etc)
Windhelm house (forget the name) will be a Magic Museum, hopefully with a full library of spells
Whiterun is my Dragon Museum

Haven't decided on Riften, probs a DB/Thieves Museum .. but first character won't join either, so my 2nd character will probably do all this.

aha! I knew that playing skyrim like the sims would deem me useful somehow! From now on your character owes my character 125 bucks per day for their cleaning services *nodnod*

This is the official contract as of now. Feel free to make any changes as this will be your last chance to do so!

PS: as for the real life house cleaning? I'm really sick and won't be coming into work today :/ sorry!

Such a good idea. I think I need to move all my spell books down to my alchemy lab! I've got wardrobe full of potion recipes :)

Haha, don't get me wrong! Like I said before, I freakin love all the kicking butt parts just as much - And i happen to be a huge fan of the sneak method as well thanks to the amazing perks. I'm just thankful that the game gives you time to wind down as well :)

PS: so excited for monsters inc 2 :)

Ahhh, such another fantastic idea! I like dedicating shelves to matching artefacts - dragon claws, deadric, ect. But the idea of a museum is amazing :)

I also organize books by subject and put them in appropriate parts of my houses. I also keep several outfits of "civvies," some enchanted, some just because I like them, for doing different things around town. I also sit to read books and eat at locations I like.
My wife doesn't actually play but she loves alchemy. She knows the uses of a lot of the plants already and often stops me on the road and reminds me to pick more of this or that because I'm running low on a particular potion. She also picked the Elven Horse armor for my horse in Oblivion. We don't have a horse in Skyrim because we both find it unfair to endanger their lives unduly.

I love stealing, particularly from mages because they always have expensive staves.

And walking through the mountains around Markarth, discovering little mining towns and camps.

Also: assassinating people.
