Although I agree with what you are saying the failure of Brink is entirely due to the fact that it was marketed as a(n) R/evolution of the FPS. It simply did not deliver on this front. The missions are static and although they do return 'to the basics of the FPS genre' it does so in a bad way. The game feels more like an FPS from ~2000 than it does from 2010 and beyond. The maps play out in a repetitive manner and objective are always the same every single time. SD and Bethesda promised us a(n) R/evolution of the genre and instead we got something else entirely, something that was already done 10 years ago. I enjoy Brink, but it failed in many ways. Heck, even the stats site feels like it has absolutely nothing to add to the game and the clan feature will not even be launched until late summer. Seriously?! In the end Brink has a lot of great ideas but it simply failed to deliver on most of them.
Reality is they just took team fortress and tried to make they're own version, the whole evolution thing was marketing fail, the programmers probably didn't have a say in this part. Basically banked everything on SMART system being superb, it is cool but not amazing.
Edit: removed it cuz normally i enjoy reading the post here and didn't plan on getting banned cuz some upset pleb has his panties twisted up, and tried to egg the sinister side out of it. If you aint wanting to play, go.....
