I noticed something that doesn't make sense.

Why in the world is alchemy now considered a stealth skill? It should be considered a magic skill!

It's a stealth skill because magic and combat (Is that what it's called? O.o) have Enchanting and Smithing respectively, and it wouldn't be balanced if magic had 2 creation skills and sneak had none.

Magic Already has a crafting skill in enchantment, It's a stealth skill because Assassins will get the most out of poisons as well as potions.

Gameplay reasons.

Besides it makes more sense for it to be in stealth than it to be in magic. It's used more in conjunction with stealth kills rather than throwing spells at someone! ;)

Also it's not like Speechcraft and Mercantile being stealth skills makes sense. (No idea if they changed that in Skyrim though, I don't really keep myself up-to-date on this.)

Ask the witches in traditional tales carrying mortars and pestles and throwing random stuff in cauldrons.

To be honest I don't even know why they still so insist on using the "Warrior, Mage, Thief" archetypes thing. There are no classes anymore and so trying to fit skills into three equally distributed categories seems just utterly pointless to me. By the same token, why is Speech a "stealth" skill? This seems awfully forced. The designers would have done everyone and themselves a favour ditching the concept of profession-related categories of skills entirely. Without this restriction they wouldn't have had to go out of their way to fit an equal number into each and perhaps, just perhaps, we'd have a much larger and more varied skillset now.

Apothecaries were usually seen as magical shops in Oblivion, IIRC. The thieves den and assassin places also had poison merchants.

I agree w/ what has already been said though. Balance. It's as much of a stealth skill, as smithing is a combat skill.

EDIT: Agree with post above me ^^^ :foodndrink:

My wife throws random crap in pots all the time but I think shes trying to upgrade her cooking skill not her alchemy skill... then agian I think half that crap might be a poison...

Yea, alchemy is pretty grounded in hard science. Rangers love their live-off-the-land nature potions, political spies and agents love their poisons. Well, this is TES, so semi-pseudo-retro-magico-science. Plus, it's a pretty minor change. The return of Enchanting is the new magic-craft.
