Novac. *face palm* I can't believe why it's named liked that

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 6:59 pm

Here I thought Novac was an actual town or city in Nevada. Then it hit me why it's called Novac. So does anyone else like me, or did you know why Novac is called Novac? When I found out, I felt so foolish.

Hehe. I had it spoiled before arriving there the first time. But I think it's cute.

I thought it was funny. Besides I thought that the location was just going to be a motel before, but Novac is more then that so I'm pleased.

It's a play on words. Read the burnt out neon sign on the hotel, it say NO VAC instead of NO VACANCY. The town was built around the tourist trap by the real Dinky the Dinosaur outside of real Vegas. Kind of like Arefu was a play on words for the "Careful When Passing Slow Traffic" sign on the freeway on-ramp it was built on in the D.C. Wasteland.

When I found out when I arrived there, I laughed, and I thought it was clever.

Lol, it took me a few times leaving and entering town before I realized it. I forget why, but I was doing something IRL but had the game running, and I was just standing in front of the Novac "sign", if you will. I looked at it and it was like a lighbulb...*DING*. Then I lol'd at the game and myself. I still think it's pretty clever.

I didnt realize becareful from fallout 3 was named that way either until I read it a few days ago. The town name finally made some sense to me.

I noticed as soon as I arrived and thought it was hilarious. I thought it was funnier that I was still able to get a room. Novac has Vac! B)

Exactly. As soon as I saw the sign, I thought about Arefu.

I never paid attention to the sign until about level 12. Then I realized and yup; felt foolish.

I don't think the comment about Arefu is accurate. If it was just a take on a name from a sign saying "Careful do not pass slow moving traffic" or whatever, why is the A capitalized and the entire word "Arefu" centered on the sign?

They did the same with "Arefu" in FO3. The highway sign on the bridge has the faded out letters of "Careful" resulting in "Careful"

Yeah, I got a kick out that, when I finally got to Novac. I also just assumed it was just the name of town, as well. (And heck, I just "got" Arefu, after reading the posts here... :))

I thought it added a nice, distinctly post-apocalyptic touch.

Arefu is an place in Romania not that far from "Count Dracula's" place, and Arefu in Fallout is being hunted by Vampire's
So thats that :)

Arefu isn't just from the sign board being faded....

Arefu is a small village in Romania, most well known for its proximity to the former castle of Vlad Tepes, AKA "Dracula" and "Vlad the Impaler"

They do this with signs. Fallout 3 DLC The Pitt = a sign over the bridge that says Welcome to Pittsburgh but the sburgh is faded away and someone has scrawled The before the word "Pitt." I like to see what they come up with.

Yeah, figured it out as soon as i saw the sign, pretty :lmao: moment.

Never noticed that Arefu sign though, the Capital Wasteland still holds secrets after all (or perhaps rather both :P) of these years :D
