November 2015?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:12 am

Sorry if this has been posted (search is atrocious)...

According to Polygon, there is a release date of November 10, 2015? (Article link http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/14/8780151/fallout-4-release-date-bethesda-softworks.) If so, that's pretty quick after the announcement of the game.

Is the whole reason we're from Vault 111 because it looks sorta like Skyrim's 11/11/11 release date?

Todd Howard said sometime after Skyrim was released that he wants to shorten the time between first reveal and game release.

He wanted the game "really there" so they had a lot to show, as he believed the first time you see something has a big impact or w/e

Was there any mention of anticipated PC system requirements?

I doubt the release date will get pushed away, only unless something went worng. I would say that batman arkham knight release date been moved 4 times.

If that's their policy then they place the announcement pretty late in the development phase. So I suppose the game is pretty advanced by now, which again gives hope for the release date being kept. More or less.

It would've been fitting too, as the Great War *did* happen in October, and we play a bit in the pre-War era just before the War started.

I was so hopeful for an October 10th release, then Todd said November and crushed my dreams XD

I don't know how people speak where you come from but I don't phrase the date, "eleventh of October, twenty fifteen." I say, "October eleventh, twenty fifteen." Or, in this case, I would say, "November tenth, twenty fifteen."

Here it's literally 'eleven October' or 'ten November'. None of that '# of this and that month' stuff. I was confused too, I thought it would be October as well.

I too read the date as October....

It's not about which order you say it in, it's about logic. The european system goes smallest to biggest. As in Day-Month-Year. It's just more logical than Month-Day-Year.

That's actually not a very logical system if you think about it.

There is only one of each month in a year, yet multiple copies of each day per year. Saying the month first helps narrow down the range of whatever you are talking about as much as possible. Saying the day just makes that specific month time frame even more specific.

Years are last because things talked about are generally in that year, or the year immediately before and after, as humans aren't very focused outside the now.

This has got to be the best announcement I've ever seen, holy [censored]b@lls Batman!

Stroke of genius to wait this long and put release so soon after the announcement, I can't wait!! Also, the game looks amazing, though I wasn't too thrilled with the whole settlement builder bit, but who knows, it may be cool.

That's not the issue. The date showed on screen was 11.10.15, which every European reads as 11th October.

Seriously? Because it's not like the month is just right there next to it.. You have to read the whole date to get the answer anyway, it doesn't really help you get the date faster by writing/reading the month first. Going Middle-Low-High is just as illogical as the imperial system that the US loves so much.

If we're going by your logic it should go Year-Month-Day (some places use this), which definately makes more sense than the US format, especially when it comes to release dates since they are often years away.

That's interesting. Another game I play "GameDev Tycoon" has a mechanic where trying to get maximum hype to coincide with release helps a lot with sales

[EDIT]

As for the date issue... I can see the European way: Smallest to largest (day/month/year). The "backwards" US way is second nature for me :)

I live in England and I speak English. Pretty sure I am saying it right.

Anyway a DD/MM/YY layout makes more sense as it works from smallest unit to largest in effect as opposed to MM/DD/YY that is just random gobaldy gook

The only fair way to solve this is to release Fallout 4 on 11th of October in Europe, and november 10th in the US. Then, dear Americans, ask yourself; who is backwards? :D

As an American, I saw no problem. But looking at both sides, it's really just a cultural difference. American company, American location, American dating system.
