Novice difficulty eventually evolves to Master?

Post » Thu Jul 04, 2013 2:14 am

Is just that my wife only plays Skyrim in Novice difficulty, as she is not a hardcoe gamer and finds it too difficult. She plays on Novice all the time, and kills the poor enemies pretty quickly and she is happy about it. Now, at level 22, Enemies all of a sudden turned really hard to kill, they do a lot of more damage and their health increased. Even I who have been playing this game sience release had a hard time killing a Bandit Outlaw. She is wearing and Exquisite Dwarven Armor with an Exquisite Dwarven Mace. So, is this a glitch? or is how the game supposed to evolve? Is just that I always play on Expert or Master, and could tell the difference watching her playing on Novice, until now.

Maybe you guys forgot to change difficulty between gaming sessions?

Enemies do scale, to a point, though.

She uses her own character, besides I only play on PC, shes on xbox 360 by the way. I just watched her fight against 3 mudcrabs. They were tough, resisted like 6 mace hits before they died, and killed her once, dealing a fair amount of damage. Is this normal? I already checked the difficulty, and is set as novice, sience the beggining of the game.

Enemies level as you level, but this sounds like a bit more than that. Perhaps she got bored and turned the difficulty up and you're not aware of it?

Edit: Sorry. Posted before read next comment. Maybe her armor and weapon damage are insufficient? I'm usually decked out in Daedric Armor by level 22. I've never had this experience.

Have you checked her characters stats? Maybe she hasn't been increasing her health, that's all I can think of. Enemies scale in level but I can't imagine they would be so tough on novice.

I thought so, but I already checked the difficulty and is still at Novice. I used to play a lot on xbox 360, now I do on PC. The xbox version is well known to have a lot of bugs, that's why I am asking. I played for about a year on the console, and experienced a lot of bugs, but sience I always played on Master and Expert, if this bug happened to me, I never noticed it (IF its a bug).

Mudcrabs shouldn't be that tough at novice, heck they shouldn't be that tough in any difficulty, even with low hp.

Have you tried to play the game yourself? See if it's not just her not hitting the crabs?

Magicka 160, Health 180, Stamina 215, also, she wears Heavy Armor (57 with 3 perks on Juggernaut), She uses 1 handed weapons (Mace with 55 skill, 3 perk points to Armsman, Fightning stance, 1 to Bone Breaker, 1 to Bladesman, and Savage Strike). She is a werewolf. I thought it might be caused by a decease, but werewolf have full resistance, already checked.

Yes I did, I killed them with no problems, as I know how to handle myself with a shield and a weapon, but I can tell the damned cirtters could handle a fair amount of blows before they died.

Sounds like it might just be that her armor rating and weapon damage are insufficient, then. And/or what Fire Hawk said. If it's a glitch, you might try messing with the difficulty or loading another save.

Try setting it to a harder difficulty, them back to Novice? My first thought is that she's leveled up a ton but remains with cruddy equipment.

Ok just changed the difficulty to Legendary, waited a few seconds, and then back again to Novice. I don't think her armor rating and dealing damage is that low for standing against mudcrabs, but oh well, I hope this fixes the issue if its indeed a bug. Oh, another thing, she used to kill Deers with a single arrow, not it takes 5, Deers level too?

Ok guys. It was indeed an Xbox 360 glitch. Followed your advices to mess with the difficulty. Changed it like I said, From Novice to Legendary, then saved. Loaded the game, then changed back to Novice, saved, then loaded the save again, checked if the game was still on Novice, it was, then went to kill some mudcrabs. They died with only 1 hit, let them hit me and I could barely notice my health bar decreasing. Also, killed a deer with only one arrow as normal. Now she is back on her killing frenzy enjoying a weak Skyrim. She thanks you for your time.

Can't say as I've ever heard of that glitch before.

Glad you've got it sorted out though. :tops:

Have you looked at what perks she has leveled. If you do not perk consistent with your fighting style and choose a proper balance on the attributes you can be very underpowered. As a mace user, if she is not putting enough in stamina she may as well be hitting them with a powder puff.
