I hope he is at least as big as Mehrunes Dagon in Oblivion...which when I first saw my reaction was one of http://www.concaveperceptions.com/one-leaf-clover/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/mad-martigan.jpg

Looks pretty cool to me.

Yep. Is it lore accurate? Not really, but it looks pretty neat.

So last time we had a big satan, and this time we have a big dragon. No surprise there.

I'm really hoping the final battle will have an intense metaphysical component. Alduin is Akatosh. He's the god of time. He is time. You can't just kill him, you'll pretty much end reality as you know it. Also, it's strongly implied that keeping Akatosh from devouring the current kalpa could be very bad. At least he says that in Seven Fights of the Aldudagga. With Kirkbride writing it I hope it will be awesome, but he doesn't have full creative control, so I worry...

Doesn't look like you quite understand the lore. When in the lore does it state what Alduin look like? and that wouldn't even make it true.

I think we will only be fighting his avatar. good luck killing a GOD with an iron sword

And about all of this " he isn't big enough to eat the world" stuff, How do you know what it means toeat the world? I'm sorry but that hasn't been explained at all.

PS. I think he looks awsome.

Well considering Aludin ate a leaper demon that eventually became Dagon....im guessing he gonna be really big...but he doesn't need to be massive.

and people realized this is only a plastic statue, right?

EDIT: @ above, http://www.imperial-library.info/content/seven-fights-aldudagga is a good bit of lore about Aludin.

I think he looks too much like a mindless beast. He is the incredibly knowledgable dragon god of time, I didn't expect him to look like something that would rip my head off in a heartbeat without reason.
When I look at him, I think "Zombie Dragon", not "God of Time".

Even if the statue was to scale, the word wall is surprisingly large in the demo. Alduin is likely going to be monstrously huge, and there are plenty of elements that will make him more memorable. His Voice Actor, the battle, etc are far more memorable than his visual aesthetics. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if we had to do battle with a human form avatar as well.

None of the dragons you will see in the game will be 'mindless beasts.' They area all intelligent creatures in the game, it's even said that some of them will speak to you in the 'common tongue.' He'll speak with you before he devours you whole.

I was expecting something more....uhm, God-like. But if this is the final version, I'm cool with it.

I was hoping he would be very majestic and awe inspiring, I know he is the antagonist in this game.....but he is a God.....

I guess they decided to go with the whole "BLACK+SOME OTHER COLOR+SPIKES=" style.....it looks great, and I'm sure they put a lot of work into it, I just would have liked something more holy-looking.

I feel the same way. He looked rather like a regular dragon to me at first with holes in his wings - Alduin's had a little wear and tear it seams. Thats not very god-like.

Also, have to keep in mind atmosphere and lighting could make him look very different. We also don't know if he will have additional particle effects such as blurring around his body, or constantly emitting waves of heat etc. Imagine fighting him as the sky is dark with a raging thunderstorm going on with rain coming down, crawling over his body attacking while smaller dragons fly about and land on his body to fight you.

Then again, if he is barely bigger than a normal dragon, it could be because he ends up being forced to hijack the body of a normal dragon to use as an avatar.

ASSUMING CONTROL - thats very Mass Effect 2. But it makes sense. Maybe this is just his first form, you defeat that and then you fight an even more god-like avataar of Alduin. Its a common theme in video games like Terranigma on SNES and in the Legend of Zelda and what not.

But I agree with your idea of effects that alter his appearance if not his structure.

Uh, so he does actually manifest after all? And I guess there's going to be a final battle with him too?

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

And here I thought Bethesda would go for something slightly more creative this time... ._.

They can still do awesome things with what they have, you never know how its going to turn out. I mean look at the Shivering Isles quests. In light of Jygga-whats-his-face, a disembodied spectre like Alduin head with glowing eyes warning the player to back off in the game... things like that - we don't know what to expect.

Where in the lore is he described. Looking at the wiki's I can't see even a remote description of how he looks other than; "Alduin's Title, The World Eater, comes from myths that depict him as the horrible, rauaging fire storm that destroyed the last world to begin this one."

Maybe that's his entrance. A massive black cloud thats churning with fire that sheds an eery Oblivion like glow on the land. That's atmospheric and I would not put it past Bethesda. He may even have lava like veins in between His scale which makes Him look all the more menacing.

No offence bethesda but he looks kinda normal lol....Maybe he will be like 300 feet tall or something but still

His relative size to the wall markings in the dragon language suggests that he may be 3 times the size of a normal dragon. A larger boss enemy is common in Elder Scrolls Games, in particular Mehrunes Dagon was massive, Dagoth Ur was much bigger than the average humanoid, Jygga-whatcha-ma-call-him was huge too, and so was Umaril the Unfettered.

One can only hope.

He looks the same as the other dragons. I am dissapointed

compare that with the dragons in the e3 demo or http://cdn.gamerant.com/wp-content/uploads/Elder-Scrolls-5-Dragons.jpg
Alduin is 10x more spiky and has black wings + he would be alot bigger than the normal ones

what im curious about is... why did they reveal alduin before the game even came out?

i mean, todd said he was "[censored] terrified" about letting those people play the demo of skyrim... you'd think he'd be more worried about what people thought of alduin just looking like any other dragon.

also, werent they keeping so many things secret from us because they wanted to leave us with plenty of surprises?

...well, i'd say revealing the big, bad final boss before the game is even finished, kinda spoils one hell of a surprise for us, dont you guys think so?

well, im still getting the collector's edition, because i want that statue and the concept art book, and that map.

I can't speak for him, but I agree with his post.
I don't want the game to be unbeatable, I want victory to be more interesting than a boss-fight with a moderately-large dragon. Such a boring cliche of the fantasy game genre isn't a climix worthy of this series.

If it's not at least as big as Megaleg from Super Mario Galaxy, I will be disappoint. Seriously, for size that's my minimum pass mark. The size of The Final Colossus would be better and is my higher grade. If I mistake his gaping maw for the sky, then he gets an A+.

In game I'll probably be blown away, but the statue is sorta meh. I put myself down as undecided.

Yeah. When I first saw the Collector's edition link elsewhere, I clicked the link not knowing it'd show me Alduin. Kinda wish I didn't see him, oh, well. I wanted the encounter of Alduin to be a surprise, and hopefully an epic one at that. Can't undo me seeing it though, or can we, God of time? :hubbahubba:

I expected Alduin to have more of a regal and even elderly appearance, his is the oldest embodiment of time after all. Overwhelmingly fiercesome yet regal and sagaciously archaic. A god of time and a god of dragons and men. His human manifestation seems quite lavish so I'd expect him to maintain his more human-like persona toward his avatar. His appearance should strike me as deity of the dragons, fearsome and powerful, yet also a deity of men, with references that strike me as though ornate. After all, appearance is quite a factor in judging anything, at least for us mortals. I half expected his head to have a little bit of a different bone structure. Something that sets him apart from other dragons. His design should have been more decorative via scales/skin. A king. A warrior general. The archaic creator and keeper of time. The dragon god. When I see him, those are the descriptions I want to immediately come to mind.

I do like where they were going with the spikes. Almost seems as though a spinal cape and a prickly crown. Fierce yet regal.

Oh, well. who am I to judge soley from appearance, let alone, one from a 12 in statue which is in only a picture.
