So..we now know what Alduin will look like? Your thoughts?

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:04 pm

We now know what Alduin will look like, using some common sense and logical deduction!
From Bethblog:

"In addition to including the highly-anticipated game, this premium version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also includes:
-Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 12” tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons."

So, if we are to take this as fact, which I do, we now know what Alduin, the World Eater, will look like in the game.
What are your thoughts? Opinions? Are you happy with the model? Do you think he will be very large or the same size as the other dragons?

My thoughts? I am quite pleased! I think it looks great. Whoever did the model for Alduin sure did a good job IMO. I just hope he's very VERY large. At least the size of a city. That would be accurate lore wise.

Not what I expected but pretty cool nonetheless, honestly the spikes are a bit drastic though.
I'm more curious as to the size of Alduin, hopefully he's pretty damn big.

Also I'm wondering what the inscription says of on the base of the statuette.

I think Alduin looks amazing!

@Sammy Yea that's going to be awesome to see in game, just how big he is.

For something that eats worlds,i would have expected it to be somewhat different to regular dragons, but it is still cool.Swooshy spikes.

I was expecting something more....uhm, God-like. But if this is the final version, I'm cool with it.

I was hoping he would be very majestic and awe inspiring, I know he is the antagonist in this game.....but he is a God.....

I guess they decided to go with the whole "BLACK+SOME OTHER COLOR+SPIKES=" style.....it looks great, and I'm sure they put a lot of work into it, I just would have liked something more holy-looking.

We hope he's that big. ;) At least I do. Lore says he's so big he can eat mountains, but, if that wall is to scale with him, he can maybe eat a moderately sized sand-castle. >_>

I think the wall is more for show and they weren't worried about scaling Alduin correctly.

scale matters most to me. If hes the same size as all the other dragons then I'll be disappointed

I truly hope you are right, and I agree with your sentiment.

I think it looks too much like a generic big mean dragon. Alduin is the dragon god of time after all and that look doesnt really represent it. He shouldnt be a stereotypical big bad dragon boss. I'm not really pleased. Hopefully he could at least change appearance.

I guess that's pretty close to what I imagined. I do like the gratuitous amount of spikes. However, I always imagined him also being on fire.

Also, have to keep in mind atmosphere and lighting could make him look very different. We also don't know if he will have additional particle effects such as blurring around his body, or constantly emitting waves of heat etc. Imagine fighting him as the sky is dark with a raging thunderstorm going on with rain coming down, crawling over his body attacking while smaller dragons fly about and land on his body to fight you.

Then again, if he is barely bigger than a normal dragon, it could be because he ends up being forced to hijack the body of a normal dragon to use as an avatar.

He looks pretty much like I was expecting, however I was hoping he was twice, if not more times, bigger than your "average dragon" which doesn't seem to be the case

Uh, so he does actually manifest after all? And I guess there's going to be a final battle with him too?

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

And here I thought Bethesda would go for something slightly more creative this time... ._.

Dont like it. It looks cliche and unoriginal. Dark colour, check. Red eyes, check. Lots of spikes, check.

Complete agree. Was hoping for something more creative too. Makes me sad if they waste all the potential of the dragon god of time to a generic big final battle and him being reduced to a physical being :( That thing only being his avatar I'm hoping it wont play such a huge role. The dragon god of time should be a bit different. Something more majestical and god-like. Its fine if he has a dragon as an avatar but it should be something different.

I was expecting a game version of his description in lore, a massive smoldering beast like Balrog except a Dragon. and image worthy of being a God, not a Dragon type, and I guess this is the Grey Dragon we're gonna meet in caves that we can't escape from that they were talking about.

MOD IT.

I'd say that he's at least twice the size of a regular dragon, if, that's a accurate scaled down version of a dragon wall. The dragon wall in the e3 demo was pretty big, and if that's also an accurate scale down of Alduin then he's gonna be freakin massive. lol

I'll agree with the sentiments that lore definitely describes something different, and I was hoping for that too.
But we don't know that this is his only form, after all. He could have many forms, a wispy spiritual form, a massive god form, and a dragon avatar form, this being the latter.
Let's hope so..?

Nah not gonna hold my breath on anything better, just Bethesda kicking lore out the window again :P that dragon would have been a really awesome upper tier dragon, but as Alduin? nah....

Where in the lore is he described. Looking at the wiki's I can't see even a remote description of how he looks other than; "Alduin's Title, The World Eater, comes from myths that depict him as the horrible, rauaging fire storm that destroyed the last world to begin this one."
