Now That Horses Are Mountable...

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 3:55 am

Do you guys hope there is more interaction with horses in Skyrim this time around? I mean, more than just buying one and riding it. And the only other people that would ride horses in Oblivion were guards. Here are some of my hopes that relates to horseriding:

-Small groups of guards (2-4) patrolling main roads
-Small groups of citizens horseback riding, on roads and in wilderness; also saddles should be big enough to fit 2 people (2 advlts, 1 advlt 1 child)
-Assuming the carriage system will be run by horses and considering the fact you can have jobs in Skyrim, I'm hoping you can have a job as a horseman taking citizens from point A to point B and should get paid by distance, similar to a taxi service
-More animations than Oblivion. Such as sudden stops, getting injured, attacking

Other hopes that relate to horses in general:
-Can own more than one horse
-Own a stable for your horse(s)
-Realism that comes in when you leave your horse (if you leave it somewhere in the wilderness, it could convert to a wild horse or perhaps be killed, if you leave it in your stable or other designated area, it should stay there until you return
-Should feed it food or it will run off and convert to a wild horse

Am I asking too much? I think I am but I don't see anything wrong with it.

If horses are mountable, I next hope that horses are packable.

Not so sure about the realism factor you suggest. I don't wanna be having about keeping my horse tamed or fed while I have it parked outside of a dungeon. Presumably horses would also have to be fed once or twice a day, so you'd have to check on it every 12 minutes -- and after the novelty wears off having to care for the horse would probably be more of an annoyance than anything else.

You... you monster.

With that said, I went down to the races last year, where some people I knew were going to race (local thing, lost a few quid too...) anyway, I burst out laughing when some horse took a slug to the head after breaking it's leg... pot kettle?

Anywho, I think mounted combat is an obvious wish. So long as it's balanced. At the very least, I want the NPCs who ride horses to be able to do so.

EDIT: Fixed typo.

As much as I want mounted combat as well..I don't think it will be implemented. But Bethesda is unpredictable so you never know. And yes your merchant trains and packing horses ideas are good. Hopefully the packing feature is definitely in.

What next? Horse combat of course!

Jk, I really doubt and don't expect them to do that, would probably require a huge amount of time. It'd be cool though, they could make it somewhat like mount and blade and lances/spears would have a reason to be in :D

How about a battle Like the Riders from Rohan helping Gondor... Just a mass Charge of horses into enemies...

They could probably easily make some repeatable quest where you escort people places on horse for monies.

mounts havent really been confirmed yet, we know that they had it for the people in the magazine, but no one promised anything and Todd said that they want them to be in but are not promising, however they can be taken out so dont jump to any conclusions

Horses like RDR or bust.....or atleast controlled like RDR, remember the mission for the Golden horse? all that work catching him, I rode him like I ride horses in Oblivion down an incline, poor guy tripped and broke his neck

if thats not realism I dont know what is.

Just under 2 months ago, Bethesda was still questioning whether mounts would be in Skyrim or not.

It IS still in development.

The big question is: HORSE COMBAT?

We can't lowball our hopes just because they aren't quick on the draw.

One thing I'd like to see is a first-person animation when getting on and off of a horse instead of a third person view like in Oblivion. Also, I'd like this animation to happen a lot quicker than in Oblivion. The reason is in Oblivion, when traveling to a location, I'd only dismount my horse when I saw an enemy in front of me, and this enemy often saw me too. Well, the dismounting animation was so slow in Oblivion that by the time I got off my horse, the enemy was already attacking me (or my horse). A quicker first-person animation would hopefully allow me to cover some distance before the enemy reaches me.

Great, and I hope we can carry some heavy items with the help of our horses around, kinda like in the Daggerfall.
