NPC conversations

Are they going to be as illogical and awkward in this game? Most of the time the banter in Oblivion didn't make much sense or just felt unnatural. It honestly hurt the immersion for me more than if it hadn't been in there. Not to mention how they'd often greet eachother all over again after just talking, like they had the memory of a goldfish.

And then there's the pvssyr among the hostile NPCs, which seemed to be just the same as the merry townsfolk. It didn't feel quite right sneaking around in dungeons and listening to bandits or vampires chatting about the weather. I really hope there's some unique dialog recorded for them this time around.

Oh man, NPC conversations in Oblivion were indeed nonsense. I hope they can make this better this time.

"Have you seen alrial gerand walking her dogs lately?"
"Yes, I saw a Mudcrab the other day. Foul creatures. Still I her the meats rather tastey"
"Heard any news of other provinces?"
"I dont know you, I dont want to know you.."
"Goodbye".

That's strange, I was playing Oblivion last night and I stumbled across a vampire clan in their lair, having exactly that same conversation.

Coincidence?

Bandit 1: Hello
Bandit 2: Hi
Bandit 1: I saw a mud - (arrow meets head)
Bandit 2: Who's there? Must have been the wind...

I actually quite enjoyed how broken it was. There were numerous times where I'd crouch in a corner just to hear the inane banter of the NPCs.

Even though it somewhat broke immersion, it was endearing to me at least.

Tough to get something like that to work though where it's varied and not repetitive or scheduled in an open world RPG. Personally don't care if it's addressed or not.

Certainly they will. If you've played Fallout 3 at all, you'd have seen a vast improvement in the NPC conversations. They're not going to take a step backward in that regard.

No you don't. What you hear is the sound of Beth giving up, in the Fallouts people hardly talk to each other and all of it is canned. If someone say A, then the response is B. Unlike the open ended nature of OB conversation. I was recently doing some testing in OB(after having play FNV for 150+ hours) and I was amazed at how much the npcs talked to each other and how varied the conversations were. It was a flawed system but something I hope they try to work on. There bringing back over hearing news for quests(something else left out of Fallout) so that is a good sign. It was one of the things that impressed me most when I first played(holy ham, there talking to each other!).
