NPC dialogue lines

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:57 pm

Hi, I was just wondering, is there a specific place to look in the GECK to find all the dialogue lines of a given NPC? So say if I want to find Boone's lines, is there a folder or something with all of his lines, not just ones triggered through dialogue but literally everything including his remarks during combat etc? And if so, what kind of file format would they be in?

The easiest is to search him in the NPC list, right click on the character and select "use info". A window will open with everything about this character.
In the new window you'll find all dialogue lines he says and the associated quest. Just click on the line and the quest dialogue window will open.
From there navigate a bit and you'll find what you want.

For boone there is another way, because he has a unique voice : In the voicetype you can select his voice and right-click to see where it is used (same as above, use info)
You can also check the follower quest (I don' recall the anme but it is easy to find using the first option above). Then in the conversation tab you'll find everything he says during exploration or combat.

Finally, you can try with the search option in the edit menu and type the name of the character. It will return every form where this character is used, there is an index to find dialogues only.

Don't use tthe "filtered dialogue" in the character tab, it is not reliable

thanks for replying :D

I have to confess, I've never used GECK before, so this might take me some time to get my head around. I'll get there eventually, I suppose.

OK, I can see all the lines. But is there a way of getting the actual audio files or do I need a separate program for that?

Double clicking on a line should bring up a separate menu. The bottom part of that menu will show you what .ogg file a line is using.

Well I'm can see the location of the mp3 file, but it's under .esm. How do I get to that file, I can't see the esm normally in data/sound/voice etc?

The voice files are located in the Fallout - Voices1.bsa file. You'll need a BSA browser like the one that comes with FOMM to view and extract them.
