Do NPC's die in the Civil War questline ?

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 4:19 am

I mean during the Battle of Whiterun, Battle of Solitude and Battle of Windhelm. Are random NPC's killed by missiles and during the fighting or do they all just hide in their houses ? I'm not talking about the obvious NPC's that die I mean one's like the beggar in Whiterun and such.

I know of at least one NPC who has died during the Battle of Whiterun every single time I've done the CW quests (regardless of the side I chose). There may be others who can die in that battle or one of the other sieges but I've not had that happen in my games as far as I can tell. I only know for sure about the one because he always leaves me something in his will and I get a letter informing me of his death which always coincides with that battle.

I see. I'll leave that to the end then, just like the Main Quest as well. I'll simply do it up until the Bleak Falls Barrow quest so dragons don't begin spawning yet and leave the Civil War quest until after I've done Dragon Rising. I hate NPC's dying, even if I've already spoken to them and recieved all possible quests.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about NPCs dying in the CW battles - those are all scripted to happen in a particular way, they are not random events which is the usual cause of NPC death. IIRC the one NPC who dies in the Battle of Whiterun is scripted to do so, if so it's gonna happen no matter which side you play or how long you put it off. I have done the CW 4-5 times all the way through and except for that one presumably scripted death, I have not had one single NPC go missing from my game due to getting caught in the crossfire from CW battles.

The civil war battles are mostly just nameless Stormcloaks fighting nameless Imperials. The only time 'regular' named NPCs might be involved is in the 3 sieges (Whiterun, Windhelm, Solitude). But even in those battles, the NPCs are cleared from the streets and their houses become impossible to enter. So you still get the nameless masses fighting one another. I am not sure who the one Lyn is referring to is. I have done the CW quest twice now, and have never noticed any normal NPC dying (though in those battles, you can certainly miss it!). In the very least I have never gotten anything bequeathed to me from someone's will.

No.

As far as wars go, it's pretty low as far as the body count is concerned.

It's Severio Pelagia, the one who owns Pelagia Farm. His house gets destroyed and apparently he's inside it.

^This. He has died in every battle of Whiterun I've ever fought.

The last time he actually died before I ever got there... I guess the siege was already well underway before I even got my orders from Ulfric. I'd barely gotten out of the Palace in Windhelm when the courier brought me the letter informing me of his death. Still his death always coincides with the onset of hostilities over Whiterun, one way or the other.

Nip in the air ended up being more fatal than he thought.
