NPC Dying Words

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:08 am

I am continually struck by some of the out-of-place comments that NPCs make. Probably my favorites are things like "Is that the best you can do?" just as the kill-shot hits. I could live without blood-curdling screams and that sort of thing, but perhaps next time we could get some dying comments that make sense? In the meantime, it works as a bit of Monty Python-esque humor. "It's just a scratch."

I do find it funny at times, especially if they're cut off mid-sentence, but it's ridiculous for an NPC to be boasting about how easily he'll take me down immediately after witnessing the swift dispatching of ten of his cronies. I'd understand that sort of bravado if I'd just waltzed into the place and they thought they'd have no trouble taking me down, but after watching their buddies get massacred before their eyes? Really? That kind of situation calls for something more along the lines of, "How dare you! You'll pay for this!" or maybe a, "I'll have my revenge!"

Exactly. That's the kind of thing you'd expect someone to say in that situation. Non-fighter NPCs react appropriately, too. Show any sign of violence towards them or the people around them and they'll start running away, calling out, "Please! Have mercy! Why are you doing this?" and "I cannot best you!"

Heh not dying words, but when you pacify enemies a lot of the times they'll say "hah! that spell didn't even do anything!", and I got them to say that once after I accidentally pacified then immediately paralyzed them, and they were frozen about to face plant saying "hah that spell didn't even do anything".

Considering that I can now kill them by telekinesis'ing a wicker basket into their face, yes it really did do something.

Wait until you find a certain cave where a necromancer is killing bandits and rezzing they’re souls. Every time one see’s you they say “I’m sorry, I have no choice” then they say it again when you kill them. You fight about 10 inside and 3 outside, so you’ll be hearing it a lot. Very annoying.

Best ones are those songs that bandits sing before getting their throats slit "...and someone had to die!" *SLASH*

I had an epic moment one time where a foresworn barbarian girl was facing me and said "Are you ready to die" and then Lydia came running from afar out of the fog and impaled her from behind.

as a light armor duel wielding swordsman, I sprint power attack a lot. So I run into them as my sword comes down, and they almost always say, "Be careful!!" lol

i love this so much. sprinting power attacks feel great with a mace and i do them all the time and pretty much every time i kill someone they go WHAT'S THE HURRY? it's the best.

An NPC said to me as I was doing a sneak attack throat-slitting animation on him "Keep your hands to yourself."

A lot of NPCs last words seem to be "You're not supposed to be in here."

One of my favorite ones has got to be the "Great Critical Charge" (sprinting power attack), which is able to one-shot weaker enemies and they say "Be careful!".

Ha! Enemies telling me to be cautious when I swing my warhammer at them.

EDIT: :flamethrower:

On the way to a word wall i encounteredc two bandit chiefs and two bandits, Lydia and i killed three of them, then the last one ran off shouting "I Yield!" Pretty realistic to me :)

I just love it when they say 'Is that the best you got!?' as I lift them into the air with my greatsword.

The timing really does seem off, its like even after I stab them and there corpse is falling to the ground they are still finishing their sentence like "You'll never defeat me!"

Can't they just make it so the audio file stops when their dead?
