NPC lips are not moving

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:10 pm

A while back I was playing with voices for companion mods. I extracted files "Oblivion - Voices1.bsa" and "Oblivion - Voices2.bsa" to the /data/sound folder. However, real life got in the way and I did not play for a year. Now that I want to play again... I have discovered the base game NPC lips are not moving, but CM Companion lips are moving just fine.

I use obmm and deactivated all add-ons, but the problem continues.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

TIA.

Are all the sound files you extracted accompanied by matching .lip files?

Are they just in "data/sound" or are they in "data/sound/Oblivion.esm/" and then a bunch of subfolders?

Easiest way to fix it is likely to just delete the Oblivion.esm folder from your sound folder and let it use the BSAs. You shouldn't really have them extracted in your data folder as no other characters can use the same files anyway.

The files were in "data/sound/voices/Oblivion.esm". However, after deleting the Oblivion.esm folder... their lips are still superglued shut.

Thanks... it was worth a shot.

That's really odd. Can you post a mod list? Preferably with Wrye Bash or OBMM.

Make sure headhuman.tri and such aren't doing it under Meshes\Characters\Imperial. Bad head meshes can do that, I'm pretty sure.

I will look at this on Saturday.

I have about 100 mods. I am not sure it is worth it. :)

If I cannot find anything wrong with the head meshes... I am just going to rename my current Oblivion game folder and the Oblivion folder under the "My Games" folder and try a fresh install. I will use obmm to restore all the mods. I will do 10 at a time then start a new game to see if any these are the culprit.

When I ran my test with all mods deactivated the problem persisted. It is possible there is something that obmm could not deal with upon deactivation. I will report back with any news of success or failure.

Thanks showler and Itachi62

Ok... I have narrowed this down the oblivion.ini. After a reinstall and reload of all mods... all was good. I then copied my old oblivion.ini to the reinstalled version. It had tons of tweaks that I did not want to redo. After the .ini copy the ... the NPCs lips were sealed.

More on this once I find the offending line.

The offending line was...

bUseFaceGenLOD=1

setting it to 0 corrected the problem. DOH!
