[Relz/BETA] NPC New Clothes - More Realistic Clothing Choice

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:00 am

An extremely simplistic fix so that I can use the NPC New Clothes v2.6 mod while my kids are in the room. I liked probably 75% of the changes, but a few were, let's say, questionable for my tastes. So thanks to a suggestion by Hemingway, I simply removed the NPC changes I didn't like. At some point, I might make the changes back to those NPCs, but with work obligations and family, I probably won't ever finish it enough to release it.

I spent a couple of hours on this and hopefully it works as expected. If not, I'll try and fix it. Since I didn't do due diligence and remove any R-Rated references in the .esp, I don't know if I'm allowed to directly link to the mod. If you search on Nexus for "NPC New Clothes" and then look in the search results for "NPC New Clothes - More Realistic Clothing Choices", you'll find my mod. (If someone can confirm that I can directly link, I'll edit this post).

This was my first attempt at giving back to the community - so hopefully I didn't screw anything up majorly in the mod.

Readme follows:
Name: NPC New Clothes - More Realistic Clothing ChoicesVersion: 0.1Date: 12/20/2010Category: NPCsRequirements: Oblivion Patch 1.2.0.416, Player-Created MOD(s): NPC New Clothes file: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11377Author(s): Magus KainSource:Description===========The sheer amount of work in the NPC New Clothes mod is tremendous. However, there a number of questionable choices that made me think twice of having it actively loaded. So I decided to simply remove any selections from the original mod.Not the most creative or elegant solution - but I really wanted to be able to use this mod with my kids in the room.Use this as you like - I created it for my own use and simply wanted to share. I will try to support but honestly, my modding skills are minimal and likely I will not be able to fix any major issues.Details=======I modified the below NPCs from the original NPC New Clothes mod. Thanks to a suggestion from Hemingway on the Beth Forums, I simply removed the NPC entry using TES4Edit. I would consider this a very early Beta release as I have not extensively tested this. As I stated in the description, this is basically a hack-job to be able to use this mod.Note, you will need all of the original files which can be found here:http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11377To use my modification, just delete the .esp in the archive and use mine instead. You missed this part I guess:

Since I didn't do due diligence and remove any R-Rated references in the .esp, I don't know if I'm allowed to directly link to the mod. If you search on Nexus for "NPC New Clothes" and then look in the search results for "NPC New Clothes - More Realistic Clothing Choices", you'll find my mod. I'm kind of interested in this "New Clothes" mod now... But the download on tesnexus only has 3 images? If someone could point me to some more screen shots, I'd be quite happy. :)

Well not even the Nexus page for the original or revived version has much images. The http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2070 (which I think was the latest before this) - at least lists the mods incorporated.

I'm hoping with this that it is not body mod incongruous - The PES version uses only exnem so I'm hoping he worked with that version to create this ... well maybe I'm wrong I guess the one he linked is the latest. for certain the resources of the mod he used (found in the mirror tab of the nexus mod profile) are needed as this is just the esp.

I suppose also I'll need to check into the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15165 and see if it needs tweaking too.

[edit] it seems that the FCOM patch is mostly to make sure that certain actors don't loose specific OOO keys added to their inventory - I wonder if that is still needed with OOO now having the Invent tag?

And as far as face data it seems that it is just copied over Oblivion.esm face data. If one were to use a TNR variant and added tags to whatever variant for race info I'm certain (well I know from from using the older version) that TNR would win.

[edit 2] The FCOM patch requires the mod be named as the original - I'm just going to use gecko to reassign the master to this new one.

I should have some time this morning to put a couple of images up.

I didn't even know there was a version on PES - d'oh. I wish I would have tried that first as I might have been able to save myself a few hours. From reading the description, it seems like the author might have done what I did - but in a more complete (i.e. better) way. But then again, it's not "packaged" with each mod so I probably wouldn't have spent all the time finding, downloading and installing each mod.

I added a few screenshots to the Nexus site. I did not make any of the alterations to NPCs in the shots - just an illustration of what the original mod has to offer. I may add more as time permits.

**Edit - Beginning with the letter "A", I started uploading screenshots of the NPCs that were changed in the original mod (not including the ones I removed). Thought it might be a nice option for those that want to see all the changes. Plus for anyone interested in using BG2408's RBP, you can see the hair changes as well. I'm also using the Beautification option of BG's mod so you'll see those changes as well (assuming I have my bashed path and load order set up correctly and you're not really seeing the NPC New Clothes changes).

Bumping this for awesomeness. I was thinking of the original NPC New Clothes mod earlier, and was about to make a post asking if there were any alternatives (don't really like seeing NPCs walking around in S&M outfits), but then I came across this.

I don't use FCOM, so I can't comment on any conflicts there, but if you use TNR you'll find that they override one another in the load order. BUT! I was able to get them working together by merging the plugins using TES4Gecko, and as far as I can tell everything's fine (using the dark elf Arena combatant as a reference point and then running around the IC seeing the new clothes). I have http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8261 before it and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24077 afterwards in the load order, and so I've got NPCs with diverse clothes, diverse/better faces, plus eyelashes, whiskers, tattoos (on orcs), scars, blemishes, etc. It's pretty neat having it all work together.

For the most part maguskain did a great job removing the questionable clothing choices, most everything complements the original outfits and doesn't stand out, save for a few things like that stereotypical wizard robe and pointy hat, but even that's kind more silly than completely inappropriate like the outfits in even the "non-advlt" version of the original mod.

Anyway, if you enjoy added diversity in your game this is a really great mod to get. The resources from the http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11377 take up a few hundred megs (use the mirrors tab), and of course some of that's wasted, but it's worth it to be able to see new, sensible clothes on NPCs instead of the same outfits everywhere. I mentioned it in the comments on tesnexus, but I've become so interested in added diversity in the game that I'm seriously considering attempting some kind of clutter overhaul to add in some of the millions of resources people have made to leveled lists and customized in homes and stuff. It would be so pointless, but so neat to not see the same items everywhere.

Or use Wrye Bash and import the face data with Tags from TNR but not this, which is how BOSS has it anyway.

I'm like 90% sure I tried that and it didn't work, since I have TNR merged in usually. But maybe I accidentally tried it with NNC afterwards in the load order. I'll check it out to be sure.

EDIT: Yeah, for me NNC is overriding the faces even when it's before my Bashed Patch in the load order. Which is... weird, I thought it had been the other way around, with TNR overriding the clothes (with that load order shouldn't it be?). I remember spending some time trying to get them to work together back when I first tried the original version a few months ago, and that's what motivated me to download TES4Gecko in the first place. Hopefully merging them with that doesn't cause any unnoticed problems. I saw the faces were TNRified, saw the new clothes around the IC, so I assume everything's working as it should.

Hmm - well I've not seen anything like that, but then maybe I've not looked well enough. Maybe we should compare looking at specific NPCs.

Also it could be because I use RBP in both my load orders and the TNR in it merges later than either of the mods in question.

And I also use other clothing mods like NPCs revamped.

[edit] and maybe Surazal is onto something http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1160924-relz-wrye-bash-thead-59/page__view__findpost__p__17150103.

Well, TNR is tagged with NpcFaces for me, though I'm not quite understanding why it shouldn't work like that. But I'm satisfied with my setup so long as everything continues to look ok.I don't anticipate messing with NPCs anymore after this, the most I'd want is beards and I tried that a while back combined with everything else but had no luck.

I'm not sure if there's really anything else out there besides body mods and extra hair and eyes that will add anything to the NPCs. I've been using Comprehensive Style Collection which is a smaller scale version of NNC. Suggestions are welcome. Like, is there a mod that will add more diverse hairstyles to NPCs? I'm a fan of anything that expands diversity/uniqueness.

By NPCs revamped, do you mean the NPC remodeling project? Still incomplete, sadly, changes NPC clothing based on their job/personality? Because "NPCs revamped" = TNR as far as I know. I've wanted to try the remodeled NPCs but it was never finished, so I'd rather stick with NNC since it covers everything.

Yeah that is it NPC remodeling by http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=534078 I merged all those esp with Gecko and it works quite well. Made an OOO version and the regular.

But also there are a few others:
CorePC http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28643
Hemingways Capes.
If you use Integration it has an optional mod for adding custom clothes to its NPCs.

Plus a multitude of clothes and armor replacers available on nexus.

Thanks for the recommendations. I just noticed I typed Comprehensive Style Collection when I meant to type Classy Clothing Compendium, which is why that description may not have made sense. But I've found that a few of its meshes are incorrectly referenced or something, because I've found a few shirts that produce a missing torso when equipped. Not sure how to fix it myself, the most I can do is change texture paths with Nifksope, really.

I've been hesitant to add clothes and equipment/weapons to the game until I've mostly seen all the vanilla stuff (and finished my website dedicated to a massive aesthetic overhaul, linking pretty much every single mod that improves the game without adding or modifying anything that would change the game's balance like adding weapons or armor or new quests, etc. would). But when I do eventually add stuff--I remember coming across a mod that's supposed to add items that are added by mods to leveled lists, since a lot of them just put them in a chest somewhere or a shop. Are you familiar with this? Because I was thinking it'd be fun once I've seen everything the vanilla game has to offer to come across new stuff in dungeons rather than just buying it at a shop.

Actually I was thinking of Vacuity's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1012020-relz-item-interchange-thread-4/. I've got so much stuff downloaded that I haven't used yet because of my current vanilla-balance-only rule, like hundreds of files, including John's Leveled List Overhaul; it can get pretty confusing, haha. Anyway I'm not 100% sure Item Interchange does what I want, ie. if a mod adds a piece of armor to a single shop, will II be able to put that item in the leveled lists? Or does II have to specifically support the items in question? I'll have to read further in the thread and ask if necessary, but if it does what I'm thinking of that's just more proof Vacuity rocks, heh.

But yeah, off topic, though I guess this stuff falls under general diversity issues.

EVEN MORE OFF TOPIC EDIT: Damn, is the Luggage in Cobl like the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2523 mod? A single chest you can access from many locations. I have a modified version of that I edited and I've been placing them in the homes each time I buy one. If the Luggage is like the description makes it sound maybe I should have just tried that in the first place, heh.

Okay I think that's enough for my increasingly tangential inquiries, heh.
