NPC Purchasing Power?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 9:49 am

TheTalkieToaster was making a really cool mod where NPCs could purchase things, but unfortunately SetPackageLocation was not available, which was required. Now, I believe SetPackageLocation is in OBSE 0019, so the mod would be possible. I wonder if TheTalkieToaster or someone else will continue with this, as it would be a pretty amazing mod.

Looks like it. SetPackageLocationData is in the online docs.

Hm. Well anyway, it would be really awesome if NPCs bought things. Imagine them going into a store and actually purchasing something in the menu and using it.

I think the idea was to be able to send your companion to the store and get equiptment, so you didn't have to do everything yourself. Which would be a nice feature!

I don't recall that being what NPC Purchasing Power was about. It was about NPCs in general being able to purchase things I believe.

^ You know, Mr. Tissue Box, I believe I remember TheTalkieToaster mentioning that even with SetPackageLocationData, he was still un-able to accomplish what he needed to, so he's again waiting for the next OBSE release.... I'm pretty sure it was either in one of his old threads or on one of the OBSE threads....

Well, this is what TheTalkieToaster said on May 22, 2010:
"I can't find SetPackageLocation, so it's unfortunately not possible. Trying to get NPCs to refer to placed objects from outside their cell is a bugger and a half, believe me."

If he stated more recently than May 22, then I guess you're right.

I'd be really interested in something like this.

It always bugs me that I'm the only one who seems to do any shopping - there's no queues/lines in Cyrodiil! I started to make a mod to add new "shopper npcs", the plan being to add new npcs to the world who would have schedules to visit appropriate shops, to force a conversation between them and the merchant with appropriate dialogue (possibly taken from the barter dialogue sounds) to give the illusion that they were buying items - but lack of CS skills prevented me from getting very far.

If OBSE allows, the real thing would be great!

I reminded him about the mod a few weeks ago. He said he'd start working on it when he gets the time to do so, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the news ShadeMe.

This should probably be a question for TalkieToaster, but I wonder if anyone else knows this; For the mod, is there an AI package added to NPCs by hand to go shopping? If so, it could possibly conflict with other mods that change the schedule of NPCs.
