NPC Response Expansion
Release 1: Player Nudity Reactions

Downloads
========
http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14208

This mod aims to make NPCs more aware of what/how the player is doing. This first release makes NPCs react to player nudity, using vanilla voice acting.

It may be expanded later, with reactions for when the player is close to death for example.

Has your character ever woken up and walked around Rivet City or somewhere else, with NPCs happily greeting him as you walk by,
only for him to find out he has been walking around naked all this time?

This mod makes NPCs recognize it when you walk around without clothing or armor on. People might laugh at you, get angry at you, or become very nervous,
as you walk by. This has no real impact on gameplay, but adds a bit of extra realism.

All NPCs, except for children, ghouls, robots and NPCs with unique voices, can respond to The Naked Wanderer walking around.

I was going to post a video, but Windows Movie Maker wouldn't let me save it.

(If you like this have a look at my other dialogue mod as well: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1044035-relzgifts4kids/page__p__15139445__fromsearch__1&#entry15139445)

Awesome! Mods like this add so much to the feeling of actually being in the same world as the NPCs, the feeling of existing with them.

If anyone has any suggestions for new releases, like having NPC responses for when the player is close to death, post them! If I like it, and it's possible, I might do it.

The special determined one would be fun too. It would be a bit like those Oblivion responses for high skill/attribute levels (Look at the muscles on you!/There's a charge in the air. Been casting destruction spells?).

The idea is fun, but try to take care not to overdo the stat/skill responses. They got tedious after a while. I look forward to add this to my load order :)

I know. 'Look at the muscles on you!' got old really fast, especially when every other NPC says it. In fact I'm now using a mod that removes the comments. :P

Hey, as for a suggestion, this one's maybe a little more elaborate, but I always wanted reactions for when the PC is aiming their gun at someone, and that someone is close enough and facing the right direction to realize it. For example, you can pull out a 10mm, point it in someone's face, and they don't really do much. I think I posted a more in-depth description in the last thread, and I think someone had even found dialogue to suit the occasion. I was going to do this myself this summer but I've been away literally the entire time. :/

Don't really remember dialogues from vanilla so I'll just brainstorm, maybe you can use some of it :celebration:

1. How about a comment when you point your weapon at them? Should be possible considering they can detect you pointing at owned property ("I can see you eyeing it!"). They could even pull their weapon and shoot you after some time (like in Gothic)

2. There could also be some comments for some popular vanilla perks (e.g. Gunslinger or commando -> "You're a real gun-ho!", Toughness -> "think you're tough huh?" etc.)

3. Comments for high or low SPECIAL stats

4. Comments if you are sneaking.

5. Comments depending on the weight or value of your armor (. Usually the heavier the armor is the better and more expensive it is as well. These would help the player achieve a sense of social ascension and accomplishment as he progresses through the game.

6. Reaction depending on the type of armor you are wearing, especially Enclave. It just doesn't feel normal that if you meet a stranger while wearing Enclave armor he'll sit and talk as if you are a wastelander. The normal reaction would be to run away (or shoot if he is BOS). You could get away with it in places like Megaton if you don't wear the helmet because people know your face already.

7. When approaching people in the Wasteland when they are all alone, they could pull their guns as a precaution as you approach, if they can detect you. Depending on whether your gun is pulled they could even aim or shoot you if you continue approaching with the gun out.

That's it for starters :hubbahubba: Some of it isn't exactly like what you have done already but they fit the "reactions" category so feel free to use any of it (heck, maybe I'll try my hand on 6 and 7 if I have the time)

Very good work btw!

This one is pretty interesting because there are lines recorded specifically for when the player points a weapon at someone ('Hey, don't point that thing at me!'). But I think it was never implemented. I think it should be possible to detect it though.

It should also be possible to have guards tell you to put your weapon away if you're walking with your weapon in your hand in Rivet City for example.

Released, cool :hehe:

"Except NPC's with unique voices..."
I can think of one *points to signature* though I could probably come up with some interesting lines as I have been fiddling with his dialogue for my mod.

Yes. In the end I had a mod to remove those comments in Oblivion as every single person I walked past had an opinion and it got annoying

But, will certainly try this out. Sounds like fun :)

Awesome,
there are indeed allot of things the Npc's could react to.
I too thought of the weapon aim option.

Going to try this out, thanks!

3. Comments for high or low SPECIAL stats

This already happens in the Pitt: "You're too fine looking for your own good" (high charisma, not the exact quote), "You sure see a lot. What are you planning?" (high perception), "Well, if it isn't the smartest person in the Pitt" (high intelligence).

And "high" in Fallout 3 equals 7 or more.

Anyway, a nice addition, i'll add this to my load order though my charcaters have never ran around naked. (Even though thye're all girls with Type 3 Berry :hubbahubba:)

Does anyone have any idea where in the GECK the dialogue lines for the player bumping into stuff ('Pay more attention to what you're doing!'), or the 'Don't get any ideas' when watching a locked object are?

I managed to get the iron sights thing working for now as a standard 'hello', but that means they will only react to the gun being pointed at them if they haven't greeted you yet.

I need an instant reaction, and that's what you get when you bump into items. But so far I haven't found the location of these lines.

I was curious about those, I remembered some of that (the intelligence ones) but not the Charisma ones referring to being good looking. It turns out they have some based on Agility and ST as well. The CH ones deal with being friendly, not good looking, and they don't require a high level of any of the SPECIAL, which is unusual. The threshold is 5.

But, like others in this thread, I'd have to say, having these kind of comments all the time is annoying. I noticed it right away in The Pitt with the IN comments. Maybe I'm oversensitized from Oblivion, but I hated it there. I got really sick and tired of being told I was strong, etc. everywhere I went. The nvde thing is great, because people would comment on you being nvde, it's unusual. But people commenting on your personal characteristics everywhere you go is odd and intrusive. It gets old fast IMO. However, having NPCs comment when the player has her weapon unholstered and is pointing at them would be fabulous. I don't understand why we don't have that. It's too weird that I can walk up to Lucas Simms and he doesn't care about that but gets his panties in a bunch if I insult the way he's dressed.

Oh, and povholo, mod already DL'd and installed. Thanks.

I not sure this could be done with stock dialog, but reactions to companions, particularly Fawkes, would be great.

Haven't come around to playing the Pitt yet :P

Also, a modding question, any idea on how I can add a token to every human NPC close to the player?

That depends, do you change the default voice type of Harkness? Maleadvlt04 or whichever it is. If not then it should still work.

That said I think I'm going to look for a way to filter companions out of this. It's kind of weird if your companion is your boy/girlfriend/husband/wife or whatever, that he'd get mad at you for walking around him naked.

For the "unique" characters you could implement an animation or a "grunt", like "eeeeeeew", something short and incomprehensible :mohawk:

What? Changing voice type or race will break his quest, and his whole unique character. Why would I do that?
He doesn't use Maleadvlt04, he uses MaleUniqueHarkness, but Maleadvlt04 which is used by the same voice actor can be edited to sound like him. Which is what I do.

How many people reading this, get my comment and the inherent humor it has?

Hints:

Breeze's Males / The comment never used. "Hey! Don't point that thing at me!"

Awesome idea. I love it. Time to go to the bars, drink a lot and walk around naked with blurred vision. :D
Thanks for that awesome idea povuholo! :foodndrink:

I just checked it out and it's in the quest Generic advlts. You'll find the topics there for playing around with objects, placing mines, etc.
But looking at the topic names (Like PLAYERLOCKEDOBJECT), it seems like it *may* have some parameters hardcoded. Those dialogue responses don't have any conditions in the condition box. Unless there's a game setting hidden in the hundreds of settings that can control this... (By the way, I never noticed that Fallout3.esm has most of Oblivion's Game Settings, including the classes and skill descriptions. :P)

Best of luck!

Betheseda left lots of Oblivion things in there. Like all the persuasion game settings. And settings for Tamriel's 2 moons. :P

I was afraid of that. Thanks, I'll have a look.

Edit: That's interesting. The PlayerInIronSites (It's sights, stupid :P) topic and its responses are already there. If this stuff is really hardcoded I guess this one was never implemented.
