NPCs Pickpocketing You?

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:22 am

With children NPCs being confirmed I thought about how they could be interacted with..
But seriously thought of the possibility of some children (beggars probably) pickpocketing you from time to time.
Anyone think this could be a cool feature?

No, because you can't do anything about it, with them being invincible.

It would be funny especially if they can go on all four. I'd even spare the coin for this view :D

What about if you had to chase after them for a little for your precious coin?

This brings back memories of being paranoid and hiding to avoid being pickpocketed by NPC's while using 'wait' in Oblivion.

No stealing the Skeleton Key or anything like that, but I have no problem with npc's stealing, as long as it's replaceable stuff like coin or food. Getting your Ebony dagger of storms stolen would possibly lead to flying controller or mouse syndrome, not enjoyment.

it would be awesome, but I would be amazed if they implemented it.

As stated above, only if it's money or food, would also prefer if it was connected to some kind of quest or something, like chasing the kids down and finding they need help in some way. If I just get robbed every time I see a child and can't do anything about it, I won't be too happy.

I'm reminded of.... Fallout 2, was it? Or was it 1? The one that had the annoying kids pickpocketing you. And, in some foreign versions where they didn't allow kids, they just made them invisible - which meant they were actually still in the game, but you couldn't see them or stop them from pickpocketing you.

No, it wasn't "cool".

Then let them work away, it's a ticket to guilt-free beggar ignoring.

I hated those little bastards. Every time you went to the Den they'd be sitting outside the doors of almost every building, if you wanted to get inside of the place you had to subject yourself to some pickpocketing.

You have a very good point, especially seeing as how they even knew your skills in OB. "There's a charge in the air, think I'll be leaving you in peace."

I certainly hope we can be pickpocketed (occasionally).

Without stats for the NPC (Dexterity, Agility), the player (Intelligence, Perception, Wisdom), or a Pickpocket skill, how do you think the game would determine NPC's chance of success and your chance to detect the attempt?

It would be cool if someone stole your sword, but since your character does not notice it being stolen, it is still displayed in your inventory and you only realize it has been stolen when you want to equip it or anolyze it in the new invenory.

Much the same way as they would do you wouldn't it?

They could do it where you could hear a noise like a jingle of change or something if pick pocketed and the loudness of that noise would depend on how high your stealth skills are in relation to theirs?

Then you could question them (depending if you noticed), and the disposition and stealth skills could play a part in whether you got the said item back.

First of all. Don't you all think it's a little offensive to promote children stealing? I think i'd be a bad influence for kids that play this game to see their role models committing such a dubious crime? And second, children in this game shouldn't be poor or homeless. It sends the wrong message about poverty to show kids in a video game deprived of their God given right to a home and loving parents.

Obviously, the simplest method is a check vs. your character's sneak. I'm pretty sure, never done it myself of course, that someone used to picking pockets, and moving quietly, would have a better idea than anyone else that they have been 'marked' themselves.

@Sage. When is a child too young to play a game? When they are young enough to be influenced by it.

Lol, no.

Children are not supposed to play a mature game. Even if they do, why would the kids in the game be their 'role models'? Let's give our kids some credit, did they suddenly become cold blood murderers because they enjoyed the dark brotherhood quests?

Sure I think NPCs should be able to pickpocket you. I would however limit theft to just food and the odd coin. I guess it should all depend on your sneak skill, similar to how it was in Oblivion, ie; more difficult to steal from higher ranked Thieves Guild members being one example. ;)
