Nuka cola Quantum Lamp.

This is really cool and I think I may try it. However, I do have one suggestion: dump out what you have in there and make a new mixture with tonic water instead. Tonic water contains quinine. Even in small concentrations, quinine (and thus tonic water) will fluoresce in UV radiation, including direct sunlight. Tonic water is also carbonated, which makes sense for a soda pop. Finally, should you ever actually wish to drink it, tonic water with some food coloring in it is perfectly safe, unlike I'd assume highlighter ink is.

First, I want to say - excellent work, it's a very nice finished product.

But, if you're open to ideas for a "Version 2.0" ...?

Consider modifying the bottle itself in order to more effectively disperse/diffuse the light throughout the liquid.

One possible way is to drill a hole in the bottom, and insert a glass rod - affixing it, and sealing the hole, with a heat-resistant epoxy (one that bonds well to glass). This would provide a simple channel that the lgiht could move through, and higher into the liquid medium.

Another, less-simple solution involves LEDs, fiber-optics, and a control circuit. The fiber-optics would be arranged to evenly distribute light throughout the bottle ... and the control circuit could give a semi-random "flux"/flow to the light emission (by using multiple LEDs as the light source). The fiber-optics would be inserted through a hole in teh bottom of the bottle, just like the idea above.

...

For the liquid medium, I think you may have a long-term problem crop up. Mainly, I'm concerned about all the sugar in the liquid. Since you weren't working in a biological clean room, it's pretty likely that the sugar in that stuff will cause problems of the "oh look, a mold colony" variety. Straight-up colored water would likely be a better choice, IMO.

That is awesome! Haha damn now I want to make one for myself, and I would definitely consider _Pax_'s idea for making the light distribute more evenly throughout the bottle to make it look a bit more authentic.

Dude, that is awesome, too bad the paper around the bottle has creases in it though. But still very cool!!

Re: this isnt my name
I changed the colour slightly. it is now more of a purple colour. Thanks for the advice, i think the new colour looks great!

Re: bluecollaralaskan
I May try that, though does it change the colour much? because i have been fiddling with the colour and i think i have found a good one, and dont really wanna change it too much. (In that case does pink highlighters work? because that would be best suited to the current colour.)

Re: Exorince
That one looks sweet! Please do tell his secret, i am still going to use the downlight as a lamp. I think they sell them at hardware stores to go in cupboards and pantrys and they stick to the roof and provide light.

Re: DeadraAnt
Make sure to share your results!!

I would imagine that any highlighter would work, although I can't confirm.. But the one that I have seen are really cool looking, Definately worth a try.. And from what I remember the color was almost exactly the same as the pen... But yeah definately don't drink...

I'm now currently making my own to see what it's like. I bought a six pack of glass bottles of Coke, so I may make a full set if I find the time. I also plan to make what goes in the bottle drinkable. We'll see how this ends up.

You should seriously make a small run of these.

e-bay those bad boys, and let a few dollars roll in.

I'd buy it. Put's my real lava lamp to shame.

In the mean time, I'm tempted to start one as well. That says alot about your idea, because I'm a lazy bastard, lol!

Okay, mine are coming along quite well so far. I'm still trying to come up with a proper mixture for the Quantum. I know that Quantum should basically tasty like fruit, but should also be very sweet and have other crap to also make it high energy. It also glows, so I'm adding tonic water. That'll let it glow in intense sunlight or under a blacklight because of the quinine. Oh, and it's a bluish purpley color. Finally, it makes your piss glow for like a week. Oh, and one more thing: it's pop, so it's carbonated.

So far, I'm trying Blue Demon Full Throttle mixed with Pomegranate Blueberry V-Fusion, tonic water, and 5-Hour Energy. The Full Throttle and tonic water make it lightly carbonated. Full Throttle and V-Fusion gives it the color and flavor. Full Throttle and 5-Hour Energy give it crazy energy levels and the B vitamins in both will make your piss highlighter yellow for a couple days. I'm thinking this should work pretty well and it as close to Quantum as I feel like getting without actually irradiating myself.

EDIT: Ugh... the most annoyingly time consuming part is scraping these glass bottles all clean. Add to that the fact that I really don't want to svck down six 8-ounce bottles all at once and this may take a while.

EDIT 2: Wow! Nuka Cola is supposed to be a fruit flavored cola. To emulate this, I tried mixing the Coka Cola with a small amount of Pomegranate Blueberry V-Fusion. Holy crap, this stuff is incredible. I'd believe it if something like this got released and really "quickly became America's number one soft drink."

EDIT 3: Okay, these babies are done. I have six Nuka Cola Quantum bottles filled and recapped. I left off the back label on all of bottles because bottles in the game don't actually have a back label. The mixture I stuck in the bottles actually does taste something like downing a mouthful of sugar and then punching yourself in the head, so I figure I got it right. It's actually pretty good on top of being a massive rush of energy. Seriously though, my head is spinning from this stuff, so it certainly has the same effect as the Quantum in the game would. The total mixture that was divided into the six bottles (with some left over so I could taste it) was this:
- Three 16 oz. Bottles of Blue Demon Full Throttle
- About 2 oz. or so of Pomegranate Blueberry V-Fusion (add enough to get the color right, and it adds the pomegranate flavor Quantum is known for as well as other fruits).
- About an ounce of tonic water. This adds a slightly bitter taste that offsets the sugar, plus it should hopefully now glow in UV light.
- One 5-Hour Energy drink. This adds energy and B vitamins to give you glowing piss.

Divide that into the 8 oz. bottles in equal amounts, crimp the caps down to size, and then forcefully shove them back on to the bottles. After that, go back and touch up the silver Sharpie that you probably rubbed off the caps and you're done.

I'll add pictures in a second, but this stuff has given me a headache so give me a second.

Nice man, they sell that stuff right next to my dorm, maybe I'll check out the flavor.

Also, you can always crimp the cap around the top of the bottle, rather than trying to push it on afterward.

Crimping the cap after putting it on doesn't seal it correctly. I had to use very thin needle nose pliers to pull each crimping back down before shoving the cap back on. This finally gave me bottles that no longer hissed as they lost their carbonation. I mean, I'm sure they still are slightly losing carbonation because I don't actually own a bottle cap crimping tool, but I did the best I could and I plan to have these all gone tomorrow anyway. Oh, and I still have a headache from this stuff. It may be the quantum, it may be a placebo effect, or it may be the five (I gave away one) 8 oz. Cokes I just downed before doing all this so I could have the bottles.

Here are the pictures. It's almost midnight here (EDT), so I can't see if they glow in direct sunlight. Likely it won't give them enough UV radiation, but I think my brother has a blacklight at his house (which is a one minute walk away), so I'll see if they really do glow tomorrow.
