Number of aspiring Operatives is worrisome

Post » Sun Apr 17, 2011 1:42 pm

Man that's just the typical mentality of people. Everyone wants to be the badass wearing the hood after watching the Brink Official Trailer, and almost none of them have the gaming skill level to do so. That's the number 1 reason why I don't want to be an Operative though, because it's going to be so overused.

In BFBC2 I never play Sniper and I get the "Ace Pin" for being the best player in the entire match every other game. Most people who are playing it want to be the rugged loner archetype that everyone thinks of when you say "Sniper", while I hunt snipers using Medic/Engineer simply because they can't go toe-toe with a real soldier, or anyone for that matter. It's going to be the weakest class in my opinion and I'm sure people will become disillusioned with Operative pretty quickly and resort to other classes as their main early on so I wouldn't worry.

I play as all the combat roles on BFBC2 but if my team isn't cooperative and tries to all be the same class and go off by themselves i will chose engineer or assault primarily because as good as a sniper can be its just to easily to be killed by the other classes so i don't try and be that class. And as for medic that's mostly a team class so its not worth it if your team wont kinda stick together.

Ya know what, I'm just gonna be all of em.

same here and another thing is I bet they will do something like they did in team fortress 2 and limit the amount of one class out on the field at one time. So I bet there will only be one or two operatives out at a time on one team.

People might think out of Assault/Medic/Engineer/Recon in BC2 and assume Medic/Engi are just the sideclasses, but the game BELONGS to medics/engineers. That's all I play and I can handle any situation. Yeah the game is team based and your experience suffers when you have a squad that isn't co-operative, which is nearly always the case. But even if my squad svcks I can run around and revive someone who isn't even on my squad and get just as many points as I would for killing an enemy, or throw them some health and get even more points so you can always play Medic. And to get on topic I'm confident Brink will be similar; the game revolves around completing special tasks so I'm sure special classes will be the most heavily used therefore the game will belong to Medics/Engineers etc too, not the guys on the frontlines who are just there to keep enemies at bay while the work gets done elsewhere.

this is what I was afraid of,

Ive always been the stealth type in every game, and Im one of them that know what theyre suposed to do.
In TF2 instead of picking up the intel Id weaken the defenses until the rest of the crew barged in. I just hope this doesnt turn into a camo-fest

Disguises are overrated on this forum.
Just looking at general behaviour will be enough to detect one if you even have the slightest game sense.

According to polls though, medic is the second most popular class.........hardly any engineers.

No worries, man -- Operative and Engineer are tied for my expected class. I'm not too good at just killing the other team; I need something to do. Medic is tempting, but Soldier is not for me.

The few, the smart, the engineers. Not for me though. I like the turret and weapon buff but everything else about it just isn't me. I always played as the medic class or sniper class in any class based shooter......

Engineer here. Ignore the sig. I do plan on trying out all classes, obviously, but I also plan on playing Operative a little differently than (most) everybody else. No sneaking around for me. It'll be all comm hacks, sticky grenades, and self-destructing when I play Op.

And yes, this topic has been discussed like a million times already. Operatives come out on top in every single class poll. And Light bodytypes win every single bodytype poll. It is distressing, somewhat, but I know that a lot of people will be changing their minds once they actually play the game for a bit. I think I'll just play mostly offline for a few days to let the Operative frenzy die down. No problem-o.

And here some advice for you: stop giving orders to people on the thread. Just because your name says "Chief", that doesn't make you one...

Rage posting and caps lock doesn't fix anything. Since the game is "nothing like" other games, people are trying to describe it using bits and pieces of other games to explain what this one will be like. And just to be irratating, "You mad bro?" ^_^

When people get more into the game they'll learn that being an operative isn't as epic as they once thought

First weeks of BRINK

- People will try out what they think they will like, and what they think is the best

The time after

- People will have found their call and their real favorites

^This.

Like everyone else is saying, I think when we get our hands on the games, the classes or some certain classes may be different than what we have expected. After playing for a bit, everyone will find their "niche" class and specialize in that.

For example, I plan to be a Light Medic. However, maybe when I get the game, I find out that being a Light is tougher than I thought (what with their short health) and may even end up playing a Heavy Medic. ;)
