Number 1 Concern I'm Seeing: Bullets to Kill

'hardcoe' modes in my opinion are the worst idea ever to be included into any game.

They have no place.

I like the idea of removing all HUD-elements though.

This is a very interesting and relevant topic because the exact same thing is going on with KZ3 right now. The devs have increased the bullet damage to the point where two to three bullets to the pinky toe = fatal...... and thats just not right IMO. Add to that the ridiculous amount of aim assist and no recoil when aiming down sights and it is a recipe for disaster. Everything that capt. awesome said regarding bullet damage relative to skill is spot on! The high health is one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to Brink, as it yields more intense, skill oriented gunfights (like KZ2). Hopefully GG decrease the bullet damage in the final product because I don't want the gameplay to be reduced to the randomness of who sees who first gets the kill without any variation or chance of retaliation.

It is also the most inaccurately named gamemode.

I personally disagree, with some games. COD:BO hardcoe was good I.e no killcams. But BFBC2 hardcoe mode was/is essential for me. I can't stand playing BFBC2 without it on and my friends didn't know about it and now they are the same.

But I don't think Brink needs one.

Hardocre mode in BC2 makes the Recon class practically useless, and strips away one of the games coolest features - spotting enemies. Instead of calling these modes "hardcoe" (because they're not) they should just call them something like "Realism mode."

I do remember that there is no point to a sniper without hardcoe mode on. 2 headshots with a high powered rifle to kill, fully crap. (Btw I have a 360, dunno how it is for others, Also not lag - me and my friends tested it, and I haven't experienced lag on a 360 had it since 06)

Also you can still spot enemies in hardcoe mode. Throw a motion detector and pause the game or press back i can't remember. But there is a map there and the detected enemies show up

And I like being a sniper and dont care about a minimap. Still just as deadly when I drop 10 people in a row from across the map.

Yes, I am aware of this, but that is simply finding away around a feature of the gamemode.

But sniper =/= Recon. People use snipers in HC for the weapon, not the class.

Yep. But I stick to HC in BFBC2 just my preference.

Look at ~4:30, when the player kills other people with an SMG.
Doesn't look like there's too many bullets involved :P

"Realism Mode" makes just as little sense. "'Everybody goes Railgun'-Mode", perhaps.

look i think they should defiantly be different games modes because it adds more variety and when ever im playing FPS such as cod im always on hardcoe types because it makes the game a lot more tactical and fun plus YOU NEED COVER!!!! where as if you go on normal game modes you never have enough ammo to start with to get a good amount of kills takes way too many bullets... im still guna buy this game either wether it has or doesn't have different modes that effect damage but would like to see some because it gives you a reason to be a bigger type so you can take more damage. im just hoping these guys have hit the nail of the head with the combat system wit this cause of cod it was totally messed up

It's funny how you emphasize the words "need cover" when speaking about COD - a game where you can shoot through practically any surface.

Reading through this (and other) threads, It truly is sad how many people compare and contrast Brink to COD (and other games) . Brink is not COD. If Brink released, and it was discovered that the only thing it had in common with COD was the fact that it is in first person and you hold a gun, tat would be completely acceptable, because like I said, Brink is not COD - it's not even developed or published by the same companies. If you want to play a game that shares many of the features that other games have - then [censored] play those games!

Having a hardcoe mode is something that Splashdamage has probably considered, and if they choose to implement it then more power to them. It has always been a choice to play hardcoe or not, and I cannot fathom how having this choice in game would be detrimental to someones overall experience. I will play on this mode if it available, simply because I consider it more fun.

On top of that: In COD-hardcoe mode pretty much every weapon can fire through almost every "cover".

I voted yes, but not as a mode. How about an optional feature for private servers where you can choose to have low bullet damage, regular bullet damage and high bullet damage. Or even just variable health options, like how you could disable shields in Halo 1.

The OP has a point in that fights could degenerate into Bunny-Hopping-Strafe-Fests. However, most of those BHSFs would be the CoD players struggling to adapt. The Brink players would aim for the head and use focused fire to bring down targets.

PS: When I say "High/Low Bullet Damage", I mean an extra 50% or so. So 1/4 of a clip to kill someone, or 3/4.

One fundamental element that people are failing to acknowledge, is that Brink is being balanced to play the way it does - meaning, those of you who are in favor of "hardcoe" damage scales, don't realize that it would unbalance the whole flow of how the game was designed. You seem to be using logic and experience from other games, and attempting to apply them to Brink - it isn't going to work. Just take 1 element from Brink - objectives. Trying to arm a charge or build a bridge or hack a terminal, is going to be hard enough with the current damage scales. Now image trying to complete it them "hardcoe" damage scales - good luck. The game would just be players dying left and right, with little to nothing getting accomplished. Defensive teams would have slaughter-fest while Attackers (who already have the odds stacked against them) would have little to no hope of winning.

Using hardcoe settings in modes like DM and TDM works well. In a sophisticated setting like Brink, it is just destined to fail. You would need to a whole list of other settings/restrictions, just to make it work.

If a server decided to increase damage substantially, they would have to spend a lot of time experimenting with all of the other values in the game in order to balance it. While such a huge project is not unheard of when it comes to mods and private servers, it would take a lot more work than just upping the damage.

And this is the point I was trying to make. This topic is titled "Number 1 Concern I'm Seeing: Bullets to Kill." I was simply saying that if all they did was change the damage scales, the game would fall apart.

I think that Splash Damage is doing a great thing in trying to get the average gamer ONLINE. And I think the hardcoe community should welcome it as it will eventually add to their ranks. Brink is in it's very nature engineered to bring two different types of gamer together on a somewhat even playing field. So why not embrace progress? Instead we need to make it more competitive as a standard instead of embracing the true spirit of the game.

The latest trend in gaming seems to be, if you don't like a game (but still want to play it) whine until they change it, or just mod it yourself.

Yeah but we've all got that friend that'll play shooters against the AI but they HATE playing multiplayer because they think multiplayer means JERKS. That's the audience that splash damage is going for. It's a huge audience. And the people who play CoD online seem to think that Brink is being tailor made for them and they need to drop by and share their wisdom.

I support all modding communities, even if i see one that is (in my opinion) butchering the game. Lots of amazing game modes, even totally new games, or just improvements in normal game balance come out of it.

I was mainly referring to the comp scene, since the changes they propose are based off personal grievances and/or "maintaining balance," rather than creativity. I used to play ETpro all the time, but I was still on a pub server.

I hope that these game modes are private, as, we people on consoles often do not get to choose the server we join.
