Nvidia Driver stopped working - Can't play Crysis 2

Post » Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:27 am

Whenever I try playing the MP or SP of Crysis 2 my game freezes momentarily, screen goes black, and then returns to the game. Occasionally it will freeze for 10 seconds, show the desktop, and then resume the game. It sounds as if the fans completely stop and then once the game comes back on they kick on again. I've edited my fan cooling curve using MSI Afterburner so I doubt it's a cooling issue.

I've got a Gigabyte GTX 560ti SOC 950 MHz edition graphics card. It's pretty new. I had issues with BFBC2 until I disabled HBAO. I've tried running the newest drivers (267.46) the ones that came with my card (266.44), and drivers in between (266.66). However, nothing has worked for me.

I though maybe the voltage on my 560ti not being high enough so I played with that also and that didn't work.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if you guys think it's a driver problem or I maybe I just got a bad videocard.

This is really killing me and I don't want to switch back to my GTX 260 black edition, but I will if I have to.

Please let me know if you have any ideas what may be causing this.

On a side note, I redeemed my code and it said it succeeded but doesn't show up in game. The sticky and the EA help page say to log in with your email not your username so that's what I did. However, I went ahead and logged in with my username which is BoomSlang001 and entered the code and then it said something like "Code Usage Limit Reached". WTF? So does that mean I used it on my email which for some reason didn't work?

Some GTX 560 Ti's are unstable at anything over 900Mhz. From what i understand, yours is stock at 950mhz, have you tried lowering the clock speed? It's unfortunate but try that and see if that helps, worse case scenario, run at the original 560's setting of 850. Hopefully that'll fix the issue, i could be wrong, but its worth a try.

When I read your thread title I knew you'd say you have a Gigabyte 560Ti SOC...

I had the same problem with the Crysis 2 demo and Dragon Age 2 but with a SOC-1000. Turned out the card was faulty, which seems to be the case quite often with these cards.
I can't, however, tell if it's a general fault since I don't have Crysis 2 to check with my new SOC-950. But it's unlikely since it runs about 20°C cooler (SOC-1000 was at 97°C tops) and Dragon Age 2 isn't crashing anymore.

Have you tried running FurMark to check for GPU temperatures and crashes? (If it gets over 90°C the card's probably faulty as well, unless the air flow in your case is very bad)

Anyway, my suggestion is to RMA it.
