Nvidia Optimus Not choosing Graphics Card - Game Unplayable

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:36 am

I have a GTX 670M card.

Currently when I run Fallout 4, its selecting the integrated graphics card as the video card. I've set the fallout4.exe and falloutlauncher.exe files to both run via the Nvidia card in the control panel, however, when I launch the game, it still runs off of the integrated graphics. I've been using Nvidia Inspector to see if there is any activity and there isn't.

I cannot run the game at all.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

This is a known issue with the game. Currently the only solution is to plug your monitor in to the port from your video card and not your motherboard.

Ah, if you've only got one port then you might have to wait for a patch. Beth really dropped the ball on that one.

Is there anyway to make the fallout.exe file a 32 bit executable? Or is it?

I was having the same problem with Starcraft 2, and when I set it to launch as a 32 bit file, it recognized the card, and all has been well...

No, Fallout 4 is exclusively 64bit. You could try disabling your onboard GPU from device manager however.

That's a Laptop, so that method is not applicable.

Optimus doesn't work like that.

An Nvidia software driver decides what tasks need more graphics power. So, for basic tasks like checking e-mail, installing software, or creating a document file, those tasks are recognized by Optimus as non 3D-intensive tasks.

So, for those tasks the dedicated GPU will be turned off.

However, if a 3D game is launched or a Website begins playing high definition videos, the dedicated GPU should be instantly (and automatically) enabled.

So Optimus technology relies on Optimus profiles. For those games that it doesn't work, the user should make a Optimus profile manualy !!!

This can be done in two ways:
By right clicking on the application (or game) shortcut and selecting the "run with graphics processor" menu or by creating an application profile(s) that are accessed via the nVidia Control Panel.

Disabling the Intel iGPU will cause the Laptop to malfunctioning. !!!

...except there is a switch on BIOS that you can turn off Optimus. (by selecting either the iGPU or the dedicated Graphics card)

Try that:

I'm really thinking that since I was able to get Starcraft 2 to work by running in 32 bit mode, that it has something with the game being 64 bit.

Hint hint nudge nudge patch programmers

I've queued up to try and upgrade to Windows 10 to see if that makes a difference

Adding it to that giant bug list thread

So I found a solution to this problem...

HURRRRRRRAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Bobofox wherever you are.... I think you maybe on this forum because I saw a similar handle in the bug thread.

+1000000000000000000000000 karma to you

Solution:
set the following keys to 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\RequireSignedAppInit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\RequireSignedAppInit

You do not Need to restart the System - you can test it directly!

It seems that Nvidea missed to sign These DLLs ... thats all.
