I did record this before reading that you need to disable Water Displacements.

In the video I flip Timeslip's Fake HDR+FakeHDR Better Sun on and off. and at the end are stills. and I svck at editing/rush job.

Also, what happened to those nice underwater effects that Jon was working on? or will that be a separate download?

And are you going to keep them separate or merge them at one point? I just want those underwater refractions and effects he had.

And for the ripple effect? how hard would it to be to get your own Tillable, loopable ripple texture and implement that in the mod?

Some of the stuff featured in that (caustics and underwater godrays) is included in the water shader. The remaining stuff its up to him to decide what to do with it.

Fantastic effect, but I'm not sure if disabling hdr is worth it. Pixelated reflections are horrible, but no hdr is so very plain. Or perhaps it was just that the video was using vanilla assets and a super-high brightness level.

I was in the middle of a FCOM install. I just deactivated every ESP/ESM except for SI/KotK and Tomerks. so no Texture mods. and I do have Brightness up high as I have a POS monitor. I'm waiting until I can afford a LED-LCD 120Hz monitor.

Oh did I Mention it was a CRT. :brokencomputer:

Oh, wait, I forgot. A few notes; I seem to be seeing black dots pop up on reflections. I did disable HDR/Bloom, though, so that shouldn't be the problem. Even with that, it makes the game look a lot better! Especially with the SSAO fixing.

Like I said, this can cause major instability. The stability might be improved though if you remove shaders you aren't using from the shaders folder.
Edit: and the "blue paint syndrome" can be that pronounced in clear weather from some angles, but that doesn't usually happen.

Edit 2: So, the reason for the instability I'm pretty sure is the plugin, so I'll look into stabilizing that.
Also, I've been able to get HDR to not alias the water, but during foggy weathers the water won't blend into the fog correctly http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/1180/screenshot475.jpg

Does that seem to reduce the blue paint syndrome for you?


I'm definitely interested in the HDR "fix" even with the issue, if you could upload it to 4shared or add it to the tesnexus page that would be great.

I might even be happy without HDR anyway. It seems the fake HDR linked earlier just increased the entire scene's brightness, while looking at the comparison I posted the issue has more to do with contrast. It's possible a little contrast boost will emulate the HDR look to a degree, but of course I'll still be missing out on the "dynamic" part of it, heh. Not too big of a deal, really, but I'll also have to see if the lack of crazy glow is as beneficial as I think it might be.

I'll try changing that value in a bit (just got home, need some time) and see what results I get with regards to the blue paint syndrome. I thought it was maybe due to that spot being all statics reflections or something, with no sky getting in there, but I'll see what that change does.

I too would be very interested in a HDR fix, of any kind. I've compared HDR with Bloom, and with nothing. Even with pixelisation, it's much nicer. :shrug:

The blue paint syndrome fix posted simply removed all water, for me. Strange. I'll have to try it again, in case something simply didn't initialise, or whatever.

If I understand, the plugin let you set the water specs per cell (like lava for oblivion, Cheydinhal,etc...).
In a future release, could you make Bravil water more muddy and green ?
Atm it's a tad bit to clean for my fellow bravilians ;)

In water.fx lower the choppiness variable.

Congrats on some beautiful work tomerk!! The water is stunning to say the least! I am running it with HDR and don't find it ugly or distorted.

I will try to post more tomorrow at different times.
I was also using Volumetric SSAO with God Rays. I also had 32X AA forced with nvidia inspector.
I also had ishadow res turned up to 8192 with full water reflections set in Oblivion.ini

One important thing to note. I crashed after admiring the water after about 10 minutes.
I found that my Oblivion.exe process had hit the LAA ceiling of 3.8gb. This is the first time I've ever had my memory usage so hi.
I fear your mod may contain a memory leak, though I'm not certain. I can produce more proof tomorrow.

Either way, this is such a treat! By far one of the best mods to come out this year if not the best!

You really don't mind the aliasing on the distant water? I found that AA didn't really improve it that much, maybe with 32x it does, but there's still a pretty significant difference between HDR on and HDR off.

I do want to see how the water ends up looking with the HDR fix thing tomerk mentioned.

Not sure what res you are playing at currently palidoo, but 1920x1080 in HDR plus the 32x AA looks pretty darn nice with tomerk's water in it's current form IMO.

So here is what I gathered from the crash...

Loaded Oblivion save to Water Front. Memory usage at 1.8gb or so. Used TCL command to fly around and admire water effects for about 5 minutes.
Fast traveled to Weye. Memory usage now at 2.3gb. Flew around for 30 seconds.
Fast traveled to Anvil Lighthouse. Memory usage now at 2.8gb. Flew towards the Anvil docks enough for the full cell to load. Memory usage at 3.1gb
CTD at 3.1gb, BUT within a matter of a few seconds, the memory usage on the Oblivion process shot up to 3.8gb immediately after the crash (?) (what you see in the pic)

I can't guarantee that this was caused by your water package for sure yet. But I didn't have these frequent crashes until after I installed it.
I'll make sure to remove your mod and re-verify the stability of my game.
Either way, I guess that's what we are here for. Testing and reporting issues. :)

Well, I've yet to see the water in broad day light, so I could find it isn't as pretty with HDR as I thought. Just noticing that your pics
have mostly been during the day where as I've been testing during sunset.

Ah, yeah, I haven't done my super multiple-dozen screenshot comparison yet, haha. Haven't really spent much time in the game since installing the wonderful new water. Actually I'm waiting for tomerk to share the "fixed" HDR version so I can compare that to the regular version with HDR enabled as well as disabling HDR, all with various weathers and at various times. I'm not sure how severe the fog blending issue he highlighted in that screenshot is, like if it makes it not worth using. And also I want to see if a little contrast boost might eliminate some of the flatness resulting from having HDR disabled. I figure other people might find a bunch of comparison screenshots useful since it's kind of a hassle restarting Oblivion a dozen times to try all the various options. And "hassle" is my middle name!

Did you see tomerk's post about getting rid of the aliasing with HDR? You probably won't need fake HDR if you want to put up with the issue with foggy weathers.

From your OBSE logs, it seems as though you are running 2 versions of OBGE at the same time, as seen from OBGEv2.dll and obge.dll Maybe you could try remove the older version?
