Oblivion 10th anniversary coming up

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 1:41 pm

So in about 4 months on March 20th it'll be the 10th anniversary of Oblivion. Sadly since Bethesda didn't do anyting for Morrowind in 2012 I doubt they'll do anything special for Oblivion.

But we can always wish.

As someone who plays Oblivion on console, I'd love for them to take the 3 unofficial patches (Oblivion, SI, and Mods) from Nexus and release them for consoles for Oblivion's 10th anniversary. It'd be nice, since Oblivion is still riddled with bugs and glitches, in some cases requiring you to start a brand new character (i.e Molag Bal's quest permanently removing all racial bonuses/abilities/powers and Adharji's Heirloom and thus the entire Thieves Guild questline being uncompletable if started on a few certain days of the month).

Of course a re-release with 2015 graphics would be nice, but Bethesda's never done that before. Patch would be nice, though.

The game certainly has staying power. I didn't buy it until 2009. I had pre-ordered through Gamestop. Sadly, the computer I used in 2006 was nowhere close to meeting minimum requirements. I assembled a new computer during 2007, but by then had decided not to buy the game until its PC GOTY edition was available for circa $20US.

It would indeed be a nice gesture of Bethesda could somehow make an equivalent to the Unofficial Patches available to console players. On the PC side, it would be nice if the game engine took advantage of multi-core CPUs and high-end GPUs. (Modders can handle all else.) Wishful thinking of course, but hey . . .

A year ago I would've said no way, but I guess it's possible. Start with adding it to the list of compatible 360 games so it can run on Xbox One, I guess. Then see how mods for FO4 on Xbox pan out, supposedly coming early 2016 I think? If both those things happen, then the infrastructure is in place and there's nothing logistically that would keep Oblivion from being moddable on the Xbox One at least, and I'm sure the UOP maintainers would make the patches available to the console community in a heartbeat if the avenue is open.

First popcorn and now cake. Is there a theme emerging here?

Ten years and still good. I've lost some of my original enthusiasm for computer gaming over time. Flight sims have sat unused for more than two decades. Daggerfall and Morrowind each lasted several years but their replacements were wlecome. W.O.W. was fun for a while simply because of its diversity. Skyrim, and recently, Witcher III, quickly seemed to take on that feeling of 'same-old-shtuff'. These days I find mods and the constuction set to be a big part of the game; tweaking here, fixing there and changing things to suit a mood.

If I still play, it will be Oblivion.

Yeah, Renee is hungry :P

Nice to point out the anniversary as I had totally forgotten about it. Though I do not for a second believe that Beth is gonna do anything, I′d say the best thing they could do was release the Anthology edition. If you don′t have that, draevan13, maybe you could celebrate by getting it next year? Don′t know if they released it for Xbox and PS too, but it′s a nice collection of all the games nonetheless plus you get nice maps and screenshots of all the games :)

There. Can I get my advertising money now?

Giving Oblivion multi-threading abilities or simply giving out the source code (if that's legally possible) for modders to give multithreading to the game, as a gift for 10th Anniversary would be ideal. If so the same day I could install Oblivion with FCOM, UL, BC and load of other mods and have it playable on my system.

Ah, these dreams..

I didn't even know of it. So I'm glad this thread was started because it sort of reminds us all, you know? This game changed my life for the better, I'm definitely eating some cake on March 20th.

There. That date is now in my cellphone, BAM! March 20.

I think Decrepit put it very well: this game has staying power. The harsh lands of Morrowind and Skyrim are fun to adventure in, but Oblivion feels like a home to return to.

If Bethesda did something for the anniversary I would be shocked, but those players left can celebrate the game turning double digits themselves. Now we can be cool and retro along with the Morrowind fans

Haven′t played Skyrim but I really agree with this. I have played other games after I started to play Oblivion, but I have always come back. It′s my home in the gaming world. No other game offers me what Oblivion offers which is why I keep playing it, long after having done any quest :)

I don't believe they'll do anything either. But it's fun to go back and remember. I had a serious love/hate relationship with Oblivion when it first came out. I was able to temper that and now it's my go to game. I still play Morrowind and I love it but Oblivion there's something special going on with it.

You and me both. I wasn't able to temper mine until 2013. Nowadays Oblivion and are like an old married couple: we get on each other's nerves every day but we can't live without each other.
