Oblivion: 5th anniversary game LOCK UP on music TRACK change

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:29 am

I have been an oblivion Player since it first came out, I still have the rated T disc for pc, anyway because i really enjoy this game and because i am really excited for skyrim, I thought it would be a good idea to buy the 5th anniversary edition, after all, it looked pretty cool right? And it was a good buy

however, this is where i need some help, for some reason i cannot play the game on pc with music. I dont usually ask for help like this but i am pretty desperate. Sure i could just play the game without music but i would like to enjoy the music of oblivion one last time before skyrim comes out. This issue may even affect skyrim when i purchase that so i really want to get this issue fixed so i can play.

Sorry for the length but I want to make sure I explain everything so you or someone can assist me easier.

THIS is what happens in game.
I am running:
Vista Home premium 32-bit
ATI RADEON HD 2600XT Graphics Card

I run Oblivion as administrator and I have tried running it in compatibility mode for xp service pack 2

Game runs fine when i have bMusicEnabled=0 set in the Oblivion.ini file but i really want music in game.

I load up oblivion it runs fine until i get into a combat situation or the game changes music tracks too rapidly and my game just locks up and completely freezes. I have to close it with task manager. This happens without mods enabled also. I had this thing called db audio converter and i noticed on the mp3 files dbaudio converter was taking hold of the file properties so i uninstalled the codec installed Klite codec pack and restarted my computer. however i tested it again and it STILL happened. I ran a sort of stress test for the game by repeatably attacking Jauffre and yielding and all went well until the 5th or 6th time of the music track changing and it locked up. This was really annoying during gameplay because my game would freeze and the save file would be corrupted. It used to work fine on this computer, no other games do this just oblivion and i have tried uninstalling oblivion and reinstalling it and still no luck. So, If anyone out there has some sort of troubleshooting solution or solution in general, I would be really appreciative if you shared this with me because at this point i will try anything. what is strange to me is that the game completely locks up after a few instances of combat movement. I know it has to be the music in game because it does not freeze when i have bMusicEnabled=0 in oblivion.ini file. Help meh Please

Still may be a codec issue.... grab a utility like installed Codec, and try disabling a few at a time, and see if you can't find the culprit.
